Lestienne scores hattrick against Westerlo U21s

Club's U21s drew 3-3 against Westerlo. After fifteen minutes, Club was down to ten after the exclusion of Schaessens. The visitors seemed to make a decisive 0-3 gap, but in the final minutes Maxime Lestienne showcased his skills, scoring a hattrick for Club and levelling the score.

Peter Balette and Luc Devroe signed present at Aalter, and saw how Jeroen Simaeys made his return on the pitch, for the first time since his injury end of June. Apart from Simaeys, coach Nicky Keirsmaekers also had first team players Colin Coosemans, Thibaut Van Acker and Maxime Lestienne (photo) at his disposal.

Blauw-zwart had the best start to the game, but it was Westerlo that opened the score with a header by Agbossoumonde (0-1). To make matters worse, Club went down to ten after fifteen minutes. Matthias Schaessens – scoring twice against KV Mechelen last week – brought down a Westel man through, and was sent to the dressing rooms. Club's youngsters had some chances to score through Vansteenkiste and Lestienne, but it was the visitors who made it 0-2 through Van Den Bergh (0-2).

Shortly after the break, Westerlo even scored a third, after Bidaoui had made his way past three men and curled the ball magnificently against the back of the nets.  At first, Club only threatened through long distance shots by Deschilder, Van Acker, De Jonghe and Christiaens, but twenty minutes into the second half the deserved 1-3 came: Zinho Gano pushed on after a deep goal kick by goalie Colin Coosemans, and Maxime Lestienne followed up well to score.

Despite the man down, Club was in charge, even if it took a solid save by Colin Coosemans to deny the 1-4. Club stood ground, and scored again through Lestienne. Another great save by Coosemans prevented the final blow, and with another deep goal kick he put Lestienne in front of goal, scoring his third of the evening. In the final minute of the game, Lestienne even teed up Gano with the winner, but the young striker's header went just over.
