U21s defeat OH Leuven 4-0

With an emphatic 4-0 win, Club Brugge proved the better of OH Leuven. The score was opened by Jordan Botaka, only to be doubled after a good thirty minutes by player on trial Sid Ahmed Aouedj. After the break, Blauw-Zwart added two more to the score line, through Zinho Gano and an own goal.

With Zinho Gano (photo), only one first team player joined coach Clement's men. At OH Leuven, Kenneth Van Goethem, Kevin Roelandts, Thomas Azevedo and Salou Ibrahim were all familiiar names. Still, it was Club that took the better start. Algerian player on trial Sid Ahmed Aouedj produced a good corner kick after ten minutes, but Brandon Mechele's header was cleared off the line. A bit later Botaka headed Verstraete's corner against the crossbar, and Aouedj fired over in the rebound.

The opening goal came after thirty minutes. Nathaniel Lagrou launched Jordan Botaka, neatly going past the OHL goalie and tucking in the 1-0. Just five minutes later, the score was even doubled: through Jaric Schaessens the ball came to Aouedj, who fired the ball in from a solid 25 meters.

After that feat, the Algerian player on trial proved industrious still: he was unable to frame two shots in the first half, but after thirty minutes he was at the basis of Club's third goal. Aouedj set up left back Maxime Gunst, whose cross was headed in by the far post by Zinho Gano. A bit later, Oud-Heverlee Leuven also threatened for the first time, but Salou could not make the most of this fine chance.

Halfway the second half, the score even became 4-0, when a visiting defender prolonged Verstraete's corner kick into own goal. On the other side of the pitch, Salou was lurking, but he did not succeed in getting past Jordy Maes. Next up on Thursday, the U21s will be playing the city derby against Cercle.

Club: Maes – Vanwildemeersch, Mechele (46’ Savaete), Vanneste, Gunst – Schaessens (46’ Leroy), Verstraete, Lagrou – Botaka (65’ Vandewalle), Gano (75’ De Cuyper), Aouedj.
Goals: 29’ Botaka (1-0), 34’ Aouedj (2-0), 57’ Gano (3-0), 66’ X (owngoal, 4-0).
