Stenman:

Earlier this afternoon, Fredrik Stenman successfully underwent surgery of the achilles heel of his right foot. At the AZ Monica in Antwerp, the surgeon managed to bind the two ends of the torn achilles together, and even strengthen the ligament. There have been no complications. The Swede is set to leave the hospital tomorrow. The first two weeks, Stenman will be in a cast, followed by some time in a walker boot.

From his bed in the hospital, Stenman indicated that he is doing fine: "Thanks to the pain killers, I can't feel the pain in my achilles. I feel more nauteous than anything, really, due to the narcosis.”
Doctor Declercq paid the Swede a visit earlier today, and assured him that everyone had been connected well, and that no other damage was done to the achilles. "And that's important with a view to revalidation, "Stenman sounded hopeful.

In perfect Dutch, the left back looked forward. "I heard a couple of prognoses so far. Five to seven months of revalidation is what I hear the most. I wanted the doctor to tell me whether I could make it for next season's first game. I do realise that will be short, but I want to fight for it… .”

Stenman shows great mental strength so shortly after surgery, but he can admit that his world fell apart on Sunday. "Yes, you all know me as a player with a good head on his shoulders, but this really came as a knock out on Sunday. The coming weeks I will be going through mental hell, after that I well start to recover.”

The Swedish left back was informed of the massive support he received yesterday by players and fans alike. On Facebook, the support Stenman message was liked by over 2000 people in no time. Other actions will be developed in the coming days. "That means the world to me. I don't know what to say about that. I'm baffled. I can definitely do with this support right now.”

In the meantime, the Swedish defender stresses no one is to blame for what's happened. "Why would I be mad at anyone? The coach? The phyiscian? No, not in the least. No one could have know or foreseen this to happen. I wanted to play so badly. I wanted to show what I've got in every game, show that I'm good for Club Brugge. From the very start, I wanted to be there for the supporters and fans, and be important for the team. But you can tell the fans that I will be back.”

In fact, Stenman is hoping he can make it on Thursday, to see his colleagues fight Hannover for a place in the Europa League 1/8th Finals. "I'm set to go home tomorrow. And I want to be at Jan Breydel on Thursday, but let's see what the doc says about that. Maybe it's not wise. We'll see.”

Club Brugge hereby asks all media to allow Fredrik some peace now. Just like in the past, the Club will organise a press contact, so everyone will have the opportunity to speak with Fredrik Stenman.
