Club Facts after the first part of the league

As the regular league has revealed its final secrets, Belgium's top flight is off to the Play-Offs. The fixtures have been announced, Club knows its competition with a six point gap at the top of the table. The first 30 Match Days surpassed every expectation; let's take a look at some fine stats.

Goal difference +35

With 67 points harvested in 30 games, Club Brugge has set a new record. Based on the results of this season and previous seasons, Kick&RushLab (offering an analytical approach to the world of football) predicted a total of 63.25 points for Club, which Club easily beat with its 67 points. Club's closest competition, RSC Anderlecht, had a 62.25 prediction. Bringing the gap to 12 points is quite the feat for the West Flemish outfit.

With 68 goals scored and only 33 conceded, Club finished the first round with a goal difference of +35. Second in this table, AA Gent, scored 18 goals more than it conceded. The 68 goals scored also tops the goal scoring table, and is the second best result ever since the Play-Offs were introduced.

Club's win at STVV was the 20th of the season. 13 times Club won at Jan Breydel, while away grounds were the venue of a Club victory on 7 occasions. Club tops the table with most wins, most wins at home and most wins away from home, and to boot, is unbeaten at home. As to the points harvested by only the Play-Off 1 teams in the regular league, Club is at the top of the table with 16/30, just as Charleroi. Gent (15/30) completes the top 3, while current runners-up Anderlecht (12/30) follow in fourth place.

A fine record vs Play-Off 1 teams

Taking into account the points harvested by only the Play-Off 1 teams in the regular league, Club is at the top of the table with 16/30, just as Charleroi. Gent (15/30) completes the top 3, while current runners-up Anderlecht (12/30) follow in fourth place.

In the ten games facing the other PO teams, Club scored an average of 1.9 goals per game. Charleroi is the only team also scoring more than one goal per game. On the conceding side, Club takes an average of 1.2 goals per game, the second best of all teams.

This brings Club's goal difference to +7, the best of all PO1 competitors. Bottom of the list is Anderlecht, with a -7 goal difference, largely due to the broad defeat at Jan Breydel back in December.

Vormer most influential

On a player basis, Club is also faring well. With 26 decisive actions, Ruud Vormer has been the most involved in goals in the regular league (10 goals and 16 assists). Morioka (at Waasland-Beveren and Anderlecht) follows with 24 decisive actions. Other Club playes playing a big part in goal scoring are Vanaken (18) and Diaby (17). Rezaei (18) is the only player who has been at a Play-Off 1-team the entire season also appearing in this list.

Experience may well be a vital factor in winning games, but that axiom is brought down this season.  Taking into account the eleven players with the most playing time this season, the average age of Club's Starting XI is 23.6 years, the youngest in the top flight. Closest rivals are Waasland-Beveren, where former Club coaches Clement and Vermant chose to select youth, bringing the average age down to 24.4 years.

Claiming a series of wins will surely put Club underway to the title. Fortunately that has already happened this season. Club has the longest unbeaten run (11 games) and has won the most consecutive games (5) of all first division teams. It took the lead the most (23 times) and only conceded an opener on 11 occasions.
