Club thrash Eupen 0-4
Club Brugge bagged all three points away against Eupen following a 0-4 win. Vanaken and Diatta put the blue and black in the driving seat halfway the first half. Thanks to goals by Vormer and again Vanaken just before and just after the half-time whistle, Club were quickly sure to take the win at the Kehrweg.
Compared to last week's fixture agains STVV, Ivan Leko made one change: the recovered Brandon Mechele returned to the team, forcing Sofyan Amrabat on the substitutes' bench. Club started the game lively and passionate with an early chance for Wesley, but his header went wide. Within the first ten minutes referee Van Driessche pointed to the spot when Vanaken went down after a challenge by Castro Montes, but after consulting with the VAR no penalty was given.
The hosts sat deep and tried to hurt Club on the break with their pacy forward Fall, but it were the blue and black who were the more dangerous side. Diatta headed Vlietinck's cross just wide after fifteen minutes play, but halfway the first half Club Brugge saw their efforts rewarded. Schrijvers' shot was blocked, but Hans Vanaken slotted home the rebound. One minute later Krépin Diatta doubled the lead when Vanaken picked up the ball in the attacking third, feeded it to Diatta and the Senegalese winger drilled it into the far corner via the inside of the post: 0-2. What a beauty!
With the double lead, Club put less pressure on the home side but still had most of the ball. Siebe Schrijvers tried to add a goal to his tally but was first thwarted by Van Crombrugge on a good header and then just couldn't reach Vlietinck's cross. Eupen only had one little chance through Fall who headed wide. He was also in an offside position.
Club looked like heading into the dressing room with a two-goal lead, but Ruud Vormer curled in a free-kick on the half-time break to give the visitors a three-goal cushion. One minute after the break the captain rushed on the right-hand side and played the ball into the path Vormer who powered it brilliantly in the top right corner.
Club now controlled the game easily, eventhough Eupen coach Claude Makélélé tried to do something about the score by bringing on Toyokawa. He almost scored, but Horvath's fingertip save kept it out. Fall tried again but his show was well off target. On the other side of the pitch Van Crombrugge was called upon twice to keep out Schrijvers' shot and Vanaken's free-kick.
Leko brought on Jelle Vossen and Kaveh Rezaei in the closing minutes, but the forwards couldn't score a fifth. The best chance was for Krépin Diatta, but after a brilliant move he curled his effort just over the crossbar. Deep into stoppage time Mechele needed a last-ditch tackle to prevent Fall from pulling one back for the hosts.
Club Brugge did what they had to do by beating Eupen 0-4. As Racing Genk won their game as well, Club still trail by 6 points.
