On PO1's MD2, Club Brugge will be making the trip to Anderlecht, game with kick-off at 20h30. Find out all there is to know here.
In his first season at Club Brugge, Mats Rits has made quite the mark. The multi-talented midfielder, still only 25, boasts a broad range with excellent football intellect, and has experience to boot. In the last 5 seasons, he joined in 155 games at KV Mechelen, and was one of the first names on the sheet at Malinwa. Tonight, he might be wearing the Club attire for the fourtieth time!
A measly 17 years old, Yari Verschaeren carries the weight of the world on its shoulders. The young midfielder first raised quite a few eyebrows by scoring the equaliser against Eupen, and also had a foot in what lead to the winning goal. Ever since that game, the youngster has added four assists to his total, earning him a prolonged contract at Paars-Wit until 2022.
One of the biggest encounters in Belgian football is lead by Mr. Bram Van Driessche, backed by his linesmen, Mr. Yves De Neve and Mr. Kevin Monteny. Fourth official will be Mr. Wim Smet, while Mr. Lawrence Visser will be manning the VAR post.
A dream start for Club as it sent off AA Gent with a 3-0 win. At half time, Blauw-Zwart had played itself to a nice cushion after goals by Vormer and Mata. After the break, Club's power play continued, resulting in a third goal through Vanaken, cool-headedly tapping in a Dennis cross. Throw in a strong Kaminski in the visiting goal, and the woodwork throwing a spanner in the works, and you see why an even bigger score was definitely in the cards. The gap with KRC Genk is still at four points, but with the leaders dropping the points at Antwerp on Tuesday (1-0), Club gets an excellent chance to creep closer. In the regular league, the two encounters with Anderlecht ended in four points out of six. In the first leg, Dennis topped off Club's great start with a heading opener. The visitors drew level through Musona, but were unable to thwart defeat, as Vanaken tucked in the 2-1 after some great link-up play with Ruud Vormer. The points were shared at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium. Wesley opened the debates for Club, but two Bolasie goals rectified the crooked situation for the hosts. Minutes after that second goal, however, Vlietinck, just on, made sure Club got at least one point out of the trip. In the past five encounters at the Astrid Parc, the two teams got stuck at a draw three times, leaving two wins for the hosts.
Kicking off PO1 on a bad note, Paars-Wit suffered a 3-0 defeat at KRC Genk. The league leaders took the lead through Maehle, and had plenty of chances to widen the gap. Just after the break, Anderlecht insisted a bit more, but the cold shower followed through Ito, scoring Genk's second. Adding salt to injury, Paintsil aimed the ball between Didillon's legs to make it 3-0 on the night. The defeat puts a nine point gap between Genk and Anderlecht, with Club five points ahead of the Brussels outfit. No doubt Anderlecht will be all too eager to keep the three points at home against Blauw-Zwart.
