Rudi Ekmen captures ePro League title

Esports

He did it! The past two seasons stranded in the semifinals each time, but on his third attempt, our esporter Rudi Ekmen crowned himself ePro League champion! In the final, he defeated Union twice in a best of three battle.

For Ekmen, it is the crowning of a fantastic season, as the Malinois finished the regular league as leader with 37/45. As champion of the second period, he also qualified directly for the finals on April 27.

During the finals, the Kinepolis in Brussels was the setting for an ultra-tense edition. In the quarterfinals, Ekmen took the scalp from Cercle in a virtual City derby. He then won his semifinal against KVC Westerlo.

Thus, for the first time, he reached the Grand Final of the ePro League finals. There awaited a duel with last year's champion, Union SG. Ekmen kept his nerves in check and convincingly grabbed the ePro League title. Thus, he can call himself the Belgian No. 1 for at least a year.

INTERNATIONAL STAGE

Because of his title, the fresh champion qualifies for the group stage of the eChampions League in London. A beautiful stage, but not a first for Ekmen. Last year, our esports pride already showed itself at the international level by eliminating no fewer than nine (?!) opponents in the preliminary rounds of the eChampions League. However, during the group stages on location in London, world champion Tekkz was too strong to make it through to the knockouts.

But soon a new chance awaits the Malinois. The virtual championships will be held in London and the group stage will start at the beginning of May. From there, Ekmen will then try to fight his way into the last 24 for the knockout phase of the tournament and the eventual final day at the end of May. In addition, the Belgian title also entitles Ekmen to a ticket to the EA FC World Cup Play-Ins, or preliminaries to the World Cup.
