In the final of the Cup of Belgium, Club YLA faced off against the ladies of OH Leuven. From a good organization YLA tried to resist the pressure of the ladies from Leuven, and despite a deficit at halftime our ladies straightened their back. However, it was only after extensions and a flawless series of penalties that Club YLA could crown itself cup winner!
Under a radiant sun, Club YLA kept pace with OHL Women for a long time, but deep in the first half they were still trailing 1-0 after a deviated shot by Janssen. Abrahamsson was the unlucky one on duty. Covent, who kept an excellent first half, was defenseless.
After the break, YLA had to change the gun from shoulder, as with at least 45 minutes left on the clock, it had to make up a deficit. With the speed of Boutiebi and especially Kerkhove, it also tried to be more threatening up front, but OHL did not budge.
After a little over an hour, Lievens did provide the equalizer. The midfielder was quickest to react in the sixteen and left goalkeeper Lammertijn defenseless. After the goal we got more and more a real cup game, in which both teams went on the attack and the spaces became bigger. However, no goals were scored and so we went into extra time.
Also in that, neither team found the net. Penalty kicks should decide who wins the Belgian Cup this season. And in that series Jorijn Covent turned out to be the woman of the match. She grabbed OHL's first and fourth penalties, while Guns, Martlé, Vanmechelen and Boutiebi remained clear. Thus, our ladies grab the second Cup in history after a true thriller!
