Anderlecht – Club Brugge: Club Facts

A new top game has place on Sunday when Club face Anderlecht. Anderlecht is competing for a Play-Off 1 ticket while Club want to come closer to the first place in the ranking. Read the Club Facts here.


Most games between Club and Anderlecht end 1-1. This already happened thirteen times.


Mr. Jonathan Lardot has been appointed Man in Black for the clasico. His assistants are Mr. Laurent Conotte and Mr. Florian Lemaire, Fourth official is Mr. Wim Smet while Mr. Erik Lambrechts is the VAR.


It will be the 22nd Club game refereed by the 35-year-old Man in Black. He whistled 14 away games of Club Brugge which resulted in six victories, four draws and four defeats. It will be the first time that Mr. Lardot referees a duel between both teams. 


Earlier this season he whistled the home game against Standard (3-0) and the away games against Antwerp (1-1), AA Gent (0-4), STVV (2-2) an KV Ostend (1-2). He also refereed the home game of Anderlecht against Charleroi (1-1) and the away games at Zulte Waregem (1-2) and AA Gent (1-0). 


Ethan Horvath conceded four goals on Thursday but stopped his second penalty in the Blues' shirt at the beginning of the game. The first penalty stopped by Horvath occurred in the home game against Anderlecht in the Play-Offs of 2016-2017.


Emmanuel Dennis can play his 60th home game for Club, Sofyan Amrabat his 20th, Ruud Vormer his 160th and Marvelous Nakamba his 50th.


Siebe Schrijvers is the topscorer of the Blues with ten goals. He is currently ranked sixth in the Belgian topscorer ranking.


Hans Vanaken already gave 12 assists and tops this ranking.


Clinton Mata opened the score last week against KRC Genk. He is the 15th player scoring for Club this season.


Club visit the Constant Vanden Stockstadium of Anderlecht on Sunday. Of Club's last four games, three of them were against a G5 team.


Club obtained 62.5 percent of the points against the other teams that are currently ranked in the top six of the league (Genk, Standard, Antwerp, STVV and Anderlecht). Only Genk performed better but already played one more time against another potential PO1 team.

This is the 168th duel between both teams in the Belgian First Division. Club won nine of their prior 83 games at Anderlecht (the last time dates back to 09/09/1998 when Club won 2-3), 26 games ended on a draw (last time was on 05/11/2017 when the duel ended 0-0) and 48 games Sporting kept all three points home (last time was on 15/04/2018 when the game ended 1-0).


Not a lot of people know it but this clasico has also been played six times in the second division. Both teams won half of these games.


Earlier this season Club won at home against Anderlecht 2-1. Emmanuel Dennis scored on a corner of Hans Vanaken at the beginning of the game but Knowledge Musona scored the equalizer after 19 minutes. Club still took the lead before halftime when Hans Vanaken scored.


Club could not score in any of their last five games at Anderlecht. Two of these games ended on a 0-0 draw.


Club still need two points to be entirely sure of a Play-Off 1 ticket. 


Coach Ivan Leko can again count on Emmanuel Dennis. The Nigerian winger was red suspended against Cercle and Genk. Benoît Poulain got his fifth yellow card of the season against Genk and misses the game at Anderlecht.


Last weekend RSC Anderlecht won at Antwerp 0-1. Yannick Bolasie joined Anderlecht in the winter break and scored the only goal of the match.

The Senegalese defender Kara Mbodji joined the team again after playing for FC Nantes (Fra) on loan while the Austrian midfielder Peter Zulj also joined Anderlecht in the winter break. 


Knowledge Musona (Zim) left Anderlecht during the winter break [on loan at Lokeren], Kristal Abazaj (Alb) [on loan at NK Osijek (Cro)], Mohammed Dauda (Gha) [on loan at Vitesse (Ned)] and Ryota Morioka (Jpn) [on loan at Charleroi]. 


The 56-year-old Fred Rutten is the coach of Sporting Anderlecht since the beginning of January. The Dutchman was earlier coach of FC Twente, Schalke 04, PSV Eindhoven, Vitesse and Feyenoord. Under his guidance Anderlecht obtained seven points out of five games. 


Anderlecht obtained 26 points out of their 13 home games. They won against KV Ostend (5-2), Excel Moeskroen (2-0), Standard (2-1), Cercle Brugge (4-2), AA Gent (2-0), Waasland-Beveren (3-0) and KAS Eupen (2-1), drew against Antwerp (1-1), Sint-Truiden (0-0), Lokeren (1-1), Charleroi (1-1) and Zulte Waregem (0-0) and lost against KRC Genk (0-1). 


Topscorer at Anderlecht is Nany Dimata. The Belgian striker already scored 13 goals and is currently ranked third in the Belgian topscorer ranking, just before his teammate Ivan Santini. 


Nany Dimata and Alexis Saelemaekers already gave four assists.
