Brandon Mechele: "Owe this defeat entirely to ourselves"
Spanking new Red Devil Brandon Mechele offered his post-game views on the Standard defeat.
"We knew this was going to be a real test, but we really only owe this defeat to ourselves. We showed too little intensity, and won too few duels. To boto, we created far too few chances in comparison with Standard. They had the chances. You go into this game with the best of intentions, but it just didn't work out today. We had a bit of bad luck at the start of the second 45 too, with that opportunit missed. It could have been an entirely different game if that would have gone in. We just have to do better next time. Maybe some of the lads were not as fresh as usual, which made it run a bit less smooth. That shouldn't be an excuse, however, Standard has the same intensity of games as we do. We now have some time to recharge our batteries, and should live towards our next game versus Waasland-Beveren.”
Club's defender will now be getting a sample of what it's like playing for his country. “I didn't expect to be called at this point. I try to do my best every time, and apparently that convinced the national coach to give me a chance. I'm very curious, I'm sure it'll be an immense difference with playing at Club. I'll be learning so much from this experience, but I will also have to be ready should I get the chance to play.” (TM)
