Clinton Mata: “Didn't make the most of our chances”

Another above par performance by Clinton Mata in defense, but he couldn't keep Club from conceding that away goal, making it a perilous return games in Waregem in two weeks.

“We kept playing our own game. We were well in control, but got stuck at a draw. It's not all done and dusted just yet, there's still the return game. It's a pity about that goal we conceded, but that can happen in football. This time it was Simon, but it could just as well have been another player or me. We are professional in that way, we all have our qualities, and we all make mistakes. That's football. Next up is Kortrijk, and we'll try and play a good game there too. The games are following quickly now. It's a matter of recovering well and try and be there in the deciding games. It's up to the coach to pick the names and make up a team in function of fatigue.”

Playing on different stages should not be an excuse for this draw. “Those who saw today's game, know that we shouldn't start worrying. Yes, we are still in several competitions, and for Waregem there's only the Cup. Our ambition is to play at a high level in any competition, however. But everything's possible. We just need to play every game at 100%. On the pitch there was still a lot of automatism, but just a lack of luck. Let's not be too dramatic. We were still in the flow of things, finding the free man. We didn't allow them to break down the game, while they played in order to frustrate us and win time. I'm still confident. The coach knows the players and knows how to tackle them. Today we just forgot to make the most of our chances.” (KN)
