Club - Atlético Madrid: Club Facts

A dream start for Club Brugge in its 10th Champions League campaign. After two consecutive wins, the reigning Belgian champions take on Atlético Madrid on home turf. Find out all there is to know about this wondersome campaign and tonight's opponents here.

Our campaign

Our visit to FC Porto resulted in a historic win for Club. The 0-4 came courtesy of Jutglà, Sowah, Skov Olsen & Nusa, the latter becoming the youngest player ever to have scored on his CL debut, and the second youngest player in the history of the competition, behind FC Barcelona's Ansu Fati (FC Barcelona).

Two clean sheets and five goals scored gives us a neat positive goal difference of +5.

With a fifth consecutive appearance in the UEFA Champions League group stages, Club has set a new Belgian record.

The opponent

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid have witnessed the rise of Atlético Madrid as Spanish powerhouse in hte past couple of years. The team has won the Primera Division on 11 occasions, and the Spanish Copa Del Rey on 10. On the European stage, Atléti came out victorious in the Europa League three times so far, and managed to win the UEFA Super Cup three times too. Last sason, the Round of 8 was the final destination for the team from the Spanish capital, having been ousted by Manchester City.

Atlético Madrid featured in two Champions League finals too, both of them facing city rivals Real Madrid. At the despair of the many Atléti fans, Real proved the better on both occasions, the last in 2016.

The third spot was where it all ended for Atlético last season, behind Real Madrid (1st) and FC Barcelona (2nd).

In Axel Witsel and Yannick Carrasco, two compatriots will be joining Atlético on their way to Jan Breydel. Other well known names are those of Antoine Griezmann, Jan Oblak, Alvaro Morata, Joao Félix... .

On MD2 in the Champions League, Atlético lost away at Bayer Leverkusen (2-0). On the opening day, it proved the better of FC Porto, putting Atlético in second place currently.

Last weekend's dress rehearsal against Sevilla proved succesful, ending in a 0-2 win, goals by Marcos Llorente and Alvaro Morata.
