Club beats Deinze 1-0

Club won its fifth friendly during this pre-season. Siebe Schrijvers' goal on 43 minutes made the difference. Club tried to double the lead in the second half, but despite attempts by Voet and debutant Ochieng, the score remained 1-0 in favour of the blue and black.

It was an evenly-balanced start of the game with little chances for either side. Club had the first real sight at goal with Siebe Schrijvers cutting inside from the left-hand side, but goalkeeper Vandenberghe parried away Schrijvers' curling effort to the far corner.

A few moments later Van Den Keybus turned and fired at goal, but again Vandenberghe was equal to the effort. On the half-hour mark Ricca headed Schrijvers' corner-kick against the post.

Just before the half-time whistle, Club broke the deadlock on 43 minutes. The visitors failed to clear Balanta's cross and Schrijvers was quick to respond and slotted home from inside the area.

Club Brugge goalkeeper Horvath had little to do in that first half, apart from a couple of long-range efforts from Deinze.

Coach Clement started the second half with the same eleven players, but the first danger came from Deinze. After a defensive error, Van Walle pulled the trigger but Mechele blocked the ball on the goalline.

A few minutes later Voet almost doubled Club's lead when he headed towards goal, but the ball went just the wrong side of the post.

Coach Philippe Clement made nine changes on the hour-mark - Horvath and Mechele stayed on the pitch. When Vandenberghe spilled the ball, Deli tried his luck but his right-footed drive went wide. In the 70th minute Deinze almost equalised when Mertens was found unmarked at the far post, but he headed wide of the target.

Youngsters Engels and Ochieng made their first appearance for Club during this pre-season. Both were energetic and Ochieng even came close to opening his account, but the 17-year-old saw his his strike thwarted by Vandenberghe.

In the dying moments of the game Rits' lob from twenty meters out landed int the roof of the net, so the game ended 1-0.
