Club continues winning streak with 3-0 win over OHL

Club Brugge put three past Oud-Heveree Leuven at Jan Breydel. Ignace Van der Brempt quickly broke deadlock and minutes before half-time Ruud Vormer rolled in a penalty kick. In the second half's stoppage time, Clinton Mata got his name on the score sheet when he lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper. Club widens the gap with second in the league Antwerp to fifteen points.

Club's technical staff was still in quarantine, so Rik De Mil was at the helm again. Denswil, Mitrovic, Rits, Vanaken and Lang were still unavailable following an earlier positive coronatest. Compared to Thursday's match at Kiev, there were three new names on the tactical board. Eduard Sobol played on the left-hand side instead of Ricca, while in front Ignace Van der Brempt and Tahith Chong forced Okereke and Dirar on the bench.

It was a good high-paced start from the blue and black who immediately grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. A first cross by Van der Brempt was cleared, while Balanta nodded just wide on a corner kick. Vormer then dragged his finish wide. But Club opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes, when Van der Brempt cut inside from the right-hand side and passed two defenders before slotting home his first ever goal for Club. A few minutes later Dost's shot took a deflection on a defender before it sailed wide, Balanta was blocked and OHL goalkeeper Romo was forced into making a save on attempts by Chong and Dost.

OH Leuven responded through Mercier who hit the outside of the post, but the flag had gone up so it wouldn't have counted. Club had the match under control and doubled the lead just before the half-time whistle. Romo rushed out when Chong had darted into the penalty box and the goalkeeper brought down the Manchester United loanee. Referee Boterberg had no other choice then to point to the spot. Ruud Vormer behind the ball and he smashed it home.

The blue and black wanted a third before the break, but Romo thwarted De Ketelaere and Vormer.

More of the same after the break with Club controlling the game, but without creating great chances. Fifteen minutes into the second half Vormer scampered into the area and had his effort blocked. On the hour mark Van den Keybus and Badji came on. The latter played Chong through on goal with a delightfull backheel flick, but the Dutchman had just strayed offside.

Halfway the second half, Club upped the tempo again. Van der Brempt smashed into the side-netting from an acute angle, while Chong's low cross didn't find a teammate. Badji lashed an effort just wide on a cross by Mata and a few minutes later he attempted an acrobatic scissor kick, but just not powerful enough to beat Romo.

While the game was headed to a 2-0 score, Club added another goal in stoppage time. First Romo parried away Badji's shot, but it was Clinton Mata who scored his first of the season. The visitors tried to clear, but Okereke brilliantly blocked the ball which fell into the path of Mata. The defender reacted quickly and scooped it over Romo: 3-0!

Thanks to this victory Club is now fifteen minutes clear of Antwerp, with still a game in hand against Charleroi.
