Club cruises 3-0 past KV Oostende

Club Brugge hosted KV Oostende on the opening fixture of matchday seven. The blue and black convincingly kept the three points home following a 3-0 win thanks to a goal by Hans Vanaken and a Noa Lang brace. Thanks to this victory Club moves to the top of the league.

Philippe Clement had a spot in the starting eleven for two new signings. Jack Hendry made his debut against his former team and 21-year-old Kamal Sowah played up front with Lang and De Ketelaere in a three-man attack. Balanta, Vormer and Vanaken manned the midfield. Mata, Sobol and Nsoki completed the four-man defence with Hendry. Simon Mignolet was between the sticks again, as usual.

The game began in breathless fashion with Club playing towards the Kop. The first chance was for Vanaken who volleyed Sowah's cross towards goal, but his effort went wide. A few minutes later Vanaken feeded Lang inside the box. The Dutchman cut inside from the wing and aimed towards the near corner, but Capon blocked the shot.

Fifteen minutes into the game Club created two fine chances to break the deadlock. Both Sowah and Balanta curled their left-footed finish just wide of the far corner, just one minute apart from each other.

Halfway the first half Club opened the scoring. And how! Sowah picked out Lang with a brilliant 40 meter pass from one side of the pitch to the other. Lang controlled the ball perfectly, went past his defender and then chipped it over goalkeeper Hubert. A few minutes later Balanta limped off the pitch with a muscle injury and was replaced by 16-year-old Noah Mbamba to patrol the midfield.

Just before the half-time whistle the visitors were down to ten men when Steven Fortes was booked twice in just a few minutes. First he brought down De Ketelaere, a few minutes later he hooked Lang on a break away from Club.

The blue and black started the second half with a lof of pressure on KV Oostende's defence. Vanaken, Sowah and Mbamba came close to a goal, but missed. Ten minutes into the second half Club doubled the lead after a fine attacking move. Mbamba played the ball towards Sowah on the right-hand side who then played it into the path of Mata who had overtaken the winger. The Angolean wing back looked up and picked out Vanaken at the far post who slammed it home from closeby.

Club kept the pressure on KVO and carved out a number of chances. Sowah squared the ball to De Ketelaere from the byline. The attacker beat Hubert, but Tanghe cleared it on the line ... into the feet of Vanaken who failed to convert the rebound.  A few minutes later Vormer just couldn't get enough on the ball to head home and later his shot from close range ended straight into the hands of Hubert.

Ten minutes before the end Club eventually scored a third goal. Vanaken darted into the area and found Lang with a low cross at the far post who slotted home easily. Summer signing Faitout Maouassa replaced Sobol in the closing minutes, thus making his debut for his new club.

Substitute Dost scored a fourth for Club, but his goal was chalked off for offside because of a previous offside position of Lang.

On Wednesday PSG awaits in the Champions League.
