Club cruises past Anderlecht 3-0

The top game against Anderlecht ended in a comfortable 3-0 win for Club Brugge. Krépin Diatta broke the deadlock halfway the first half and immediately after the break Hans Vanaken doubled the lead from the spot. In the dying seconds Ruud Vormer curled a free-kick brilliantly in the top corner to make it three.

Philippe Clement made two changes to his starting line-up compared to last week's derby win against Cercle. Eduard Sobol played instead of Federico Ricca as left full-back, in front Youssouph Badji replaced the injured Michael Krmenčík. Anderlecht was still unbeaten this season, something Club was eager to end.

The blue and black started the game lively by putting a lot of pressure on the opponent. After a couple of half decent chances on twelve minutes, Badji brought the ball across the goal with a volley, but it was cleared just before Vanaken could convert.

Fifteen minutes into the game Club switched on completely, waltzing over the visitors. That resulted in a fine chance when Diatta feeded Vanaken, but the midfielder didn't get a good touch and the ball sailed wide. A few minutes later, the same two but this time their roles reversed. Vanaken with perfectly weighted pass into the path of Diatta who hammered home past Van Crombrugge. Diatta almost doubled his afternoon's tally a few minutes later with a screamer from just outside the box, but it took a deflection on Vranjes before it went towards the top corner.

Club ran the show and was looking for a reassuring second goal. Badji found his countryman Diatta at the far post, but the Senegalese didn't get a clear touch. Hans Vanaken was unlucky as well when his two attempts from inside the box were blocked.

Anderlecht barely showed something that would have made their fans cheer. Verschaeren with an effort in between a cross and a shot, and Sambi Lokonga with a tame header that didn't worry Mignolet.

Vincent Kompany made a double change at half-time. Goalkeeper Van Crombrugge was forced off with an injury and replaced by Wellenreuther, while Amuzu replaced Bakkali. That didn't change a lot, because two minutes into the second half Sambi Lokonga missed his control and then hooked Ruud Vormer inside the penalty box in an attempt to correct his mistake. Referee Lambrechts didn't have an other option than to point to the spot. Hans Vanaken behind the ball and he didn't miss: 2-0.

After the 2-0 lead Club took the foot of the throttle, but still created some chances. Vormer failed to pounce home on a cross by Vanaken and Badji didn't score on a pass by De Ketelaere. A few minutes later Badji saw an effort blocked. Halfway the second half Anderlecht almost halved the deficit out of nowhere. Mignolet parried away a shot by Tau and was quick to get down again on the rebound by Verschaeren. A long-distance shot by Mykhaylichenko flew over the crossbar.

But Anderlecht didn't claw themselves back into the game as twenty minutes before the end Sambi Lokonga was booked a second time. Amuzu found the back of the net, but his goal was chalked off because Murillo - in an offside position - hindered Mignolet. In the final minutes Dennis, Schrijvers and Okereke came on the pitch, but it was Ruud Vormer who put the icing on the cake. The Dutchman curled in a free-kick via the inside of the post to make it 3-0 in the absolute dying seconds of the match.
