Club draws 2-2 with Charleroi

Club Brugge dropped two points following a 2-2 draw at home against Charleroi. Blauw-Zwart were already 2-0 down after a quarter of an hour: first Badji opened the scoring, three minutes later Mechele scored an unfortunate own goal. Noa Lang pulled one back from the spot in stoppage time and shortly after the break substitute Andreas Skov Olsen pulled us level.

Scott Parker made two changes to the team that played a draw at Stayen on Thursday. Brandon Mechele came in at centre-back instead of Abakar Sylla, while Clinton Mata also had to make peace with a place on the bench.

Tajon Buchanan started as right full-back. Antonio Nusa was given the nod. The Norwegian youngster played on the right-hand side. Roman Yaremchuk kept Jutglà on the bench for the position of centre forward.

The last couple of weeks Blauw-Zwart has been below par and so the visitors didn't hesitate to play openly, looking for a goal. Nkuba tried early on with a long-distance shot, but his effort bounced half a metre wide. At the other end, Koffi kept out an effort by Lang. After 15 minutes, however, disaster had struck.

Within minutes, Charleroi were 0-2 up. First, Club loanee Youssouph Badji sidefooted the ball low past Mignolet, three minutes later Mechele beat his own goalkeeper when Mignolet saved Kayembe's shot, but the ball ricocheted off Mechele over the goalline.

A very tough challenge for Blauw-Zwart who faced an immensily difficult task against a well-organised Charleroi. Club tried to make a move, but struggled to create any danger. On the contrary, it was Charleroi that could try again after half an hour: Badji controlled a deep ball with his chest and fired it at goal, but Mignolet was equal to it.

Then, on the stroke of half-time, Club finally got into a good offensive position and Damien Marcq hacked down Noa Lang inside the penalty area: penalty for Club. Lang himself behind the ball and the Dutchman slotted it in to half the deficit just before the break.

During half-time Parker decided to take Antonio Nusa off and bring Andreas Skov Olsen. That change had an immediate impact. Skov Olsen's first shot went over and wide, but on his second attempt he rippled the net. The Dane had latched onto Vanaken's through pass and put the ball into the far corner.

The early equaliser was a moral boost for Club who upped the pressure on the visitors, but Lang and Yaremchuk missed the target with their efforts. In between their attempts Descotte's shot flew just wide of Mignolet's target.

With fifteen minutes on the clock Skov Olsen was sent through on goal, but the Dane was brought down by Boukamir. A straight red for the defender.

Club tried to get another goal in the remaining fifteen minutes, but to no avail. Skov Olsen's free-kick and Buchanan's volley flew over the crossbar, Vanaken forced Koffi into making an excellent save, Skov Olsen's shot was blocked and Koffi kept out a shot by Jutglà who had come one.

Deep into stoppage time Meijer looked like stabbing home Skov Olsen's cross, but a Koffi used his foot to keep the ball out. And so the game ends in another draw for Club.
