Club NXT earns well-deserved point following a 1-1 draw with Westerlo

The hunger of Club NXT to get a first win grows week after week. That was clear in their home game against Westerlo.

Club NXT started the game lively with an early attempt by Van der Brempt that sailed over the crossbar. A few minutes later Badji headed a ball just wide on a great cross by Sagna. The same two created the first goal of the evening, when Asoma found Sagna on the right-hand side. The winger feeded Badji with a perfectly-weighted low pass in the back of the defence, who slotted home from close range. But the youngsters couldn't hold on to the lead very long as Soumah equalised with a header on a corner kick. After the goal, Westerlo dictated the pace of the game and created a couple of good chances. The referee played an important part at the end of the second half by awarding the visitors a penalty kick, but Shinton parried away Brüls' spot kick. On the stroke of half-time the referee let play continue after a handball inside the box. It remained 1-1 after an entertaining first half.

In the second half Badji found Sagna with a tremendous cross pass, but the Senegalese winger scuffed his finish. Van der Brempt claimed a spot in the spotlight again with a couple of fine individual actions. Asoma was given a good opportunity to get a shot, but he fired it wide. The hard-working Baeten almost surprised the visiting goalkeeper with a good effort from an accute angle. After a second yellow for captain Biset, Club NXT emphatically tried to bag the first three points of the season, but were unlucky. De Cuyper's free-kick went into the side-netting and Engels skied his finish in the final minutes of the match. Both teams shared the spoils, which is the fourth draw for Club NXT.
