Club sail smoothly past KV Oostende: 4-0

Club Brugge kept all three points home following a wrinkle-free 4-0 victory over KV Oostende. The blue and black were 3-0 up by half-time thanks to goals by Schrijvers, Vanaken and Wesley. Schrijvers bagged his brace twenty minutes before the end of the match.

Ivan Leko made three changes to his line-up compared to Saturday when Club drew 2-2 with Sint-Truiden. Ethan Horvath replaced the injured Karlo Letica in goal. In defence Stefano Denswil returned from injury and forced Decarli on the bench. In midfield no Ruud Vormer, the Dutchman was given some rest. Mats Rits was his replacer. Hans Vanaken was given the captain's armband.

Club Brugge craved a victory and started the game lively with a lot of pressure on the visiting side. Wesley and Rits aimed wide in the opening minutes, but Club took the well-deserved lead after fifteen minutes play. Rits latched onto a through ball and played the ball back to Schrijvers who sidefooted Oostende goalkeeper Ondoa: 1-0.

Five minutes later Club were already in the driving seat when referee Lambrechts pointed to the spot after consultation with the VAR as Bataille had clipped Diatta just inside the box. Hans Vanaken fired in unstoppable from eleven meters.

Club were 2-0 up, but wanted to give the crowd more goals. Ondoa clawed away Wesley's strike from underneath the bar, Vanaken hit the bar and Wesley's rebound looked to have crossed the goalline but the goal wasn't given.

Vanlerberghe and Sakala tried to halve the deficit, but Ethan Horvath was paying attention. With the minutes ticking away Schrijvers and Diatta failed to score a third goal, but Wesley decided the match in the first half. The Brazilian met with Vanaken's cross to head in powerfully.

The second half started as the first had ended with Club Brugge firmly in control. Krépin Diatta was the scourge of the Oostende defence with his dynamic running style. A good cross from the winger towards Wesley was just cleared and a few minutes later Ondoa needed a good reflex save to deny the Senegalese.

Club then slowed the game down a bit. Wesley tried to score a second goal from well outside the box.

Oostende never gave the impression to get back into the game. With half an hour still on the clock, Ivan Leko rested Wesley and Mata. Rezaei and Vlietinck were the replacers.

Twenty minutes before the end Club even scored a fourth goal. Ondoa was forced into making a great save on Denswil's free-kick, but Siebe Schrijvers was quick to tap in the rebound. His second of the evening, his sixth of the season.

Club now wanted another goal, but Kaveh Rezaei's shot trickled wide when he was through on goal. On the other side of the pitch Horvath went down brilliantly on a header to keep a clean sheet.

Club Brugge win 4-0 and are now joined first with Racing Genk who face Antwerp FC away on Wednesday.
