Club suffers 2-1 defeat at OHL

Club Brugge lost 2-1 at Oud-Heverlee Leuven. Henry opened the scoring for the home side from the penalty spot, but on the stroke of half-time Noa Lang netted the equaliser from the spot as well. Club mustered a number of fine chances in the first and second half, but it was OHL that bagged the three points with a goal by Mercier.

Philippe Clement still couldn't make use of Mignolet, Kossounou and Krmenčík. The three still awaited the results of their last COVID-19 test. Compared to Tuesday's Champions League match at Saint Petersburg, Clement made three changes to his starting line-up. Captain Vormer and goal scorers Dennis and De Ketelaere were rested. Siebe Schrijvers, Youssouph Badji and Noa Lang were given the nod. For Lang it was his first time in the eleven.

Club started the game lively and created a first chance in the opening minute, but OHL goalkeeper Romo was equal to Schrijvers' effort. A few minutes later Vanaken darted into the penalty box and was pulled down, but referee Boucaut let play continue.

On the other side of the pitch Duplus fired a ball towards the top corner, but Horvath did great to keep it out. But when Maertens went down easily inside the penalty area after a contact with Sobol, the referee awarded the hosts a spot kick.Thomas Henry didn't hesitate and fired it in.

The goal didn't unsettle the blue and black who were still the more dangerous side. Club created a number of half and clear-cut chances. Lang and Badji saw their attempt blocked, while Romo was forced into making a diving save on shots by Diatta and Badji. Schrijvers and again Badji had a good chance to level the score from close range, but lacked the composure. Vanaken and Mata tried their luck as well, but were thwarted by Romo.

On the stroke of half-time Club scored the well-deserved equaliser. After another foul inside the box, this time Boucaut did point to the spot. Vanaken was slighly injured and let Noa Lang take the penalty kick. The Dutchman did not dissapoint and scored his first for his new club. Immediately after his goal, Lang could have scored again, but he lifted the ball against the post.

Minutes into the second half, Club mustered another great chance. Diatta cut inside from the right-hand side and blasted a left-footed strike towards the far post, but Romo palmed it away. The Venezuelan kept his team in the game with another great save eye to eye with Noa Lang.

Instead of scoring a second goal, it was OHL that took the lead for a second time. Mercier's goal was first canceled out for offside, but after a VAR review it was deservedly allowed.

Philippe Clement brought on fresh legs with De Ketelaere, Vormer and Okereke. Club tried to turn things around, but needed to be careful for the counterattacking moves of the home side. Sowah aimed his first chance wide, his second needed to be parried away by Horvath. For Club, Vormer played the ball into the path of Diatta, but the Senegalese saw his lob saved by Romo.

In the final minutes of the match, Diatta had two more chances to take at least one point home, but to no avail. Despite all the chances, Club only got one past Romo and could even have conceded a third goal. Horvath tipped away a lob by Mercier and a shot by Tamari took a deflection on Mechele before it went wide.

The last chance was for Okereke but his effort was in between a shot and a cross.

Club went home empty-handed and this 2-1 loss means a third league defeat.
