Engels drags awaited victory for young Devils
With a goal in added time gave Bjorn Engels friday evening the young Devils an extreme victory against Malta. A 0-2 lead at the break was nullified, the head ball of Engels still made it for the three points.
Coach Johan Walem had a solid selection to choose from, with players such as English, C. Musonda and Bongonda ran a lot of quality between the lines. That was necessary because to qualify for Euro 2017 to be won in the next match.
The game started well for Belgium because Youri Tielemans scored a penalty after three minutes. The Devils were at the top at the break after Bongonda doubled the lead. Malta could not make a fist, but Degabriele suddenly slipped through the offside and outwitted Roef. To make matters worse, Michael Heylen worked to keep the ball in his own goal, but thanks to a firm header from Engels could the U21 still get three points.
The Belgians are now in second place in their group, 5 points from the Czech Republic, which has played a match less. Tuesday, the gap may be reduced to 2 points, because both teams meet in Leuven.
