Hans Vanaken: “Solid group reaction”
Impressive. Leading. Setting a very high standard. Hans Vanaken was once again the man behind a solid Club Brugge performance, showing he is in an incredible form.
"We needed a group reaction after some below-par results. When we score early in the game, it mostly ends in a win for us. It's just a matter of not faltering, which we didn't do. We were better than Ostend in every aspect of the game, and deserved this 4-0 win. 5 goals and 8 assists so far, fine stats. I feel great, keep adding on to my stats, and I hope I can keep this form in the weeks to come. But it shouldn't stop just here, I need to try and perform the way I do. It had been some time since we last came out on top. Two out of nine is just not enough for a team the likes of Club Brugge. We weren't strong enough in the past games, so this was the ideal opportunity to react. We never had any doubts, and reacted as a team, creating plenty of chances and not giving anything away. A bit more efficiency would have raised it to 5-0 or 6-0. A completely different game on Saturday now. We will be taking it on with the best of intentions. We will try and play our own game, and see where that'll bring us.“
A number of VAR interventions sparked some debate. "That first intervention was the penalty. Diatta went down, and the ref pointed towards the spot. So I guess that's correct. The second time around was when the ball went over the goal line or not. I was close to the situation, and it seemed over to me. But the ref reckoned that wasn't entirely certain when he had a look at the footage.” (KN)
