Hans Vanaken: “Very fine first half"

Halfway through the first half, Hans Vanaken headed in a fine Emmanuel Dennis cross, paving the road for a neat 1-2 win at KRC Genk.

“Our first half was very good, just as it's supposed to be. Lots of pressure, ball possession, creating space. It took us in the lead. After that we really should have added one more before the break. We were in full control and dominated that first half. We took a bad start to that second half, conceding a penalty kick which they fortunately missed. Just when you think confidence will be teeming, we started playing meekly and losing that second ball. Genk made its way back into the game, resulting in another spot kick, this time finding its way to the back of the nets. 1-1 and all to play for. After that, we were in control again, and started winning duels. Fortunately we managed to score from a textbook situation after that. You could say that's one of our assets. We have a lot of heading quality in our team, and it's great we were able to score like that.”

The second half saw a less dominant Club. “Maybe that bad start of the league was running through our minds a bit in the second half, but we managed to reboost our confidence and stood up. These are also the same players that performed so well last season. Based on that first half, we need to make sure we continue along the same track in the weeks following the international break.” (KN)
