Hans Vanaken hits brace in 1-2 win over Anderlecht

Club Brugge started the new year with a big 1-2 win at Anderlecht. The blue and black conceded a goal after twenty minutes when Colassin sidefooted Mignolet, but just before the break Hans Vanaken scored a real screamer to level the score. After the break Dennis missed a few good opportunities before last Wednesday's Golden Boot winner found the back of the net with a left-footed strike.

Clement made three changes to the team that faced Zulte Waregem end of December last year. Odilon Kossounou replaced the suspended Clinton Mata as right full-back, Éder Balanta was favoured over Mats Rits and Krépin Diatta was not match fit. David Okereke was given the nod, Emmanuel Dennis moved to the right-hand side.

The young Antoine Colassin made his debut for the home side and immediately had two solid chances to break the deadlock. He headed the ball against the bar after ten seconds and forced Mignolet into making a save inside the first minute. Club needed a few minutes after Anderlecht's frantic start to restore the balance.

Ten minutes into the game Club had a double chance to break the deadlock. Van Crombrugge paried away an effort by Dennis, Vincent Kompany cleared Okereke's rebound of the line. A few minutes later Dennis was crouded out inside the box and Okereke's shot went wide.

Just when Club looked to dominate the game, Anderlecht opened the scoring when Colassin outplayed Mechele and fired it into the far corner past Mignolet. But Club didn't panic and were patiently looking for the equaliser. Okereke skied an effort from an acute angle and Van Crombrugge had to save Vanaken's half-volley.

Five minutes before the half-time break Club scored the well-deserved equaliser - and how! Vormer slammed a free-kick inside the wall, but Hans Vanaken hit the ball from 25 meters out with his left foot over the goalkeeper. What a stunning goal!

Anderlecht almost grabbed the lead on the stroke of half-time, but Saelemaekers lifted the ball over the crossbar from close range. At the break Dion Cools came on for Kossounou. Club created the first danger but Van Crombrugge was equal to Vanaken's effort. On the other side of the pitch Mignolet was forced into making a save by Zulj.

After an hour play, Clement brought on Openda for Okereke and the Belgian U21 international immediately had a huge impact when he squared it to Dennis in front of goal, but the Nigerian couldn't get it past Van Crombrugge. A few minutes later he just couldn't collect Vormer's searching pass and he headed a lofted pass from Cools just wide.

Fifteen minutes before the end Dennis was close again. Substitute De Ketelaere lifted the ball over the Anderlecht defence to the striker, but he was hindered too much by Luckassen and hit the side-netting.

Club were now in full control of the game and scored the deserved second goal ten minutes before the end. De Ketelaere played the ball inside the path of Vanaken and his left-footed strike went past a helpless goalkeeper.

The hosts pushed forward and hoped to level again, but Mignolet did great when he rushed out to deny Saelemaeker. In the rebound Amusu hit his teammate and then saw the ball trickle wide.

Club held on to the 1-2 lead and start the new year with a massive win!
