The win at Monaco was a historic one in many respects. For the players, for the points, for the consequences, and for Belgian football in general. Some stats.

Broadest Belgian win ever

Never has a Belgian team been able to win a Champions League game by a bigger than two goal margin. Club managed to double that record.

Exactly four years after the previous 0-4

The broad win at Monaco reminisces of the EL win at Copenhagen back in 2014-15, coincidentally also on 6 November. The score at half-time was also 0-3, and once again Ruud Vormer netted Club's fourth. Striking!

Most emphatic defeat in Europe for Monaco

Text:

A dream for Blauw-Zwart, a disaster for Thierry Henry's troops. Monaco has been the first French team to have conceded three goals in the first 25 minutes of a CL game. The 0-4 was the biggest defeat ever on a European stage for Monaco. The encounter with Monaco is a shaky one: not only has it been Club's biggest win, it was also its largest defeat in Europe, back in 1988.

Vanaken joins the Belgian greats

With his two goals, Hans Vanaken joins a.o. Eden Hazard, Dries Mertens, Daniel Van Buyten, Romelu Lukaku, and Radja Nainggolan as Belgian scoring twice in a CL game. He's in fine company.
