Ivan Leko: “Asked reaction from our players”
Club Brugge went past KV Ostend last night, thus ensuring the five games draught has been put to a halt. An easy 4-0 win it was for Blauw-Zwart, so nothing but smiles as the players and coach addressed the press.
“A very fine Club Brugge here today. We kept our focus from start to end, with lots of movement and good circulation. Sole working point was our efficiency, we really should have decided the game much earlier on. But when you're not having the best of runs, games like these are always welcome. I wanted to see a reaction after our game at STVV. A number of players were not reaching their usual that time, while eight or nine were good today, and two were excellent.”
A boost for Club Brugge as it makes the trip to Genk on the weekend. "A gratifying win, that's correct. Saturday's game is important, but not all-deciding. Our league formula makes sure results only matter in March, April, May. I'm fully convinced we have the best team in Belgium, but that always needs to get translated on the pitch.”
For the second time this season, Ethan Horvath was between the posts. The American youngster put in a fine performance, keeping a clean sheet. “Ethan was good today. He worked hard at training, but what's most important is that he also shows it in games. Compared to last season, he shows more stability. He produced two or three fine saves today, which is positive. As technical staff, you always hope on a goalkeeper who can claim points for the team, which has not been the case with Karlo Letica in the past months. He's a top talent, but obviously he needs to bring that to games too. Another start for Horvath on Saturday? It's too early days for that. The best keeper will be playing.” (SF)
