Ivan Leko: “Some had difficulty reaching their usual potential”
Three games without a win for Club. A defeat at Standard was followed up with two draws, one at home against Waasland-Beveren now also at Sint-Truiden. The uninspired 2-2 draw clearly didn't please coach Ivan Leko.
“This was an interesting encounter, with two teams desperate to win. STVV started out well, but we managed to restore the balance. Then we conceded that silly goal, but that's something that can happen with a young goalie. We were the better team after that, and scored twice, but it wasn't enough for the three points. We knew STVV away is always tough, and today was no different. They played well, and deserved at least a point.”
The opening goal was a nightmare for Karlo Letica. The error rises the pressure on the young goalie. “That goal leaves me wrecked. Karlo is a top talent, and I have no doubt he will be at Chelsea or Tottenham in just a few years, but at this point he hasn't helped us to much point win. He's still young, so we have to give him some chances, but Club Brugge is a top team, and constant performances are demanded. Last season saw many goalkeeper switches, and that didn't exactly turn out as a success. Whether Horvath is better right now? He's very good at training, so it's clear we have two goalkeepers with lots of potential. But right now we do not have a keeper who helps us to the points.”
The draw means Blauw-Zwart is without a win in three consecutive league games. “That is not enough for a top team the likes of Club Brugge. It's the first time in sixteen months that we're not in great shape, as we have mastered this league in every aspect before now. It's hard, however, winning a game against a strong opponent when several players are not reaching their usual potential. We now need to analyse this game, and make sure we are ready for our next game on Tuesday, against KV Ostend.” (SF)
