Ivan Leko: “Trainings are important to improve the intensity”
Four youth players are part of Club's team selection for the away game at Waasland-Beveren. Coach Ivan Leko is talking about a special situation but only focuses on one goal: winning the next match.
Leko about… the youth
Baiye, Openda, Ngonge and Fadiga are the four youth players that are part of the team selection for tomorrow's away game at Waasland-Beveren. Three of them already played their first minutes in the shirt of the Blues. "It is definitely a special situation. These guys have talent but there is a huge difference between playing in a youth team and having to win every match at the first team of a top club. We need to give them confidence and have to surround them in a good way. Our focus needs to be on the most important objective: winning the next match." Club did not play a midweek game this week. "Doing three consecutive trainings and preparing intensively for a game is important for young players. In this way, they can improve a lot. This generation is completely different from the one of twenty years ago. Every young talent is immediately called the new Messi or Izquierdo. Everyone wants to get a chance but we demand a lot. Not quantity but quality is important in the first team."
Leko about… Wesley
Wesley Moraes is performing very well for the moment. Big teams are impressed by his capabilities and scouts from English teams are following him. "Players in Belgium dream to play for Arsenal, Liverpool or City but my focus as a coach is on the next match, not on what happens with Wesley, Vanaken, Danjuma, Dennis… There are enough smart people at Club who are anticipating on a possibile departure. My task is winning against Waasland-Beveren.”
