Ivan Leko: “We'll see on Sunday who's Belgium's finest”
Overturning a 0-1 to make it a 2-1 win, Ivan Leko's troops brought lots of energy and passion to the table.
“A Club Brugge wrecked by stress in the first half, afraid of making mistakes. I was livid at half-time; I want to see a Club Brugge prepared to take risks and use energy. It's okay to go down 0-3, but you have to show what you're capable of. In the second half, we showed why we have been a team demanding respect in the past twenty months. We played a team unbeaten in eight months, and with a perfect score in the EL group stages. Everyone reckoned Salzburg were favourites, but I knew we could give them hell if our football was good. Unfortunately, some silly errors caused us to concede a goal, but fortunately we made up for that in the second half. In dire circumstances, we saw that the synergy between fans and players can help us raise our level.”
The win is a confidence boost in view of next Sunday's clash with league leaders Genk. “We haven't discussed Genk once in the past days. As of tomorrow, we'll start focussing on that game. I believe in my team. It has energy, passion, and is capable of beating any team. Come Sunday, we'll see who's the best team in Belgium.” (SF)
