Jorne Spileers: “I hope we are on the right path now"

Jorne Spileers replaced the suspended Brandon Mechele in defence and the 18-year-old defender did a meticulous job. Together with Sylla, he kept the nil, giving Club a 2-0 win over Standard in this top match.

“The way of playing is different in 1A vs. 1B, the level is clearly different. We got a clean sheet, which was a while ago, but obviously the most important thing is that we keep the three points home. I'm not going to say that I want this or that now. We'll see how things go further. I'll let the coach decide and who knows, maybe I'll play again next week. It's a relief for everyone. We went through a difficult period but everyone was happy in the dressing room. Above all, I hope we are on the right path now. That we make it on the road to the Champions' Play-offs. We are going to do everything we can in order to realize that goal."

The young defender obviously still knows Rik De Mil as trainer of Club NXT and is therefore well placed to outline him. "You can't say much about Rik yet, because he has only been in this position for two days. But he has done a good job with the group, putting our heads together and saying what the problems were and what we need to work towards. I think the coach wanted to achieve some kind of shock effect today and he definitely wanted to win. Both for him and for the team. I think it's unfortunate for Scott Parker. Obviously it's not just the fault of the coach, we are aware of that." (KN)
