Timmy SIMONS

"The goals came at the right time"

Timmy Simons had to play as center defender the last half hour when Oscar Duarte limped off with an injury. Five minutes before the end he decided the game from the spot, scoring his fourth goal of the season. "This is a great result today. Everone is happy when they pick up three points at Daknam. Now it's not the time to keep a close eye on the opponents, it's still a long way to go. We simply have to try to win every game. Eidur being in the starting eleven was definitely an asset for the team. We know we have a lot of quality in the team and it's positive that the coach has more options and can look at the form of each individual player." The captain was praisful about the opponent. "Lokeren are a very good team with lots of qualities and a good organization. It wasn't easy to create many clear-cut chances, but the goals came at the right time which allowed us to play more calmly and decide the pace of the game. After the goals we were given more space and we picked up the second ball more often."
The efficiency in front of goal was another thing to be happy about. "We have played a number of games where we were not efficient at all, but today we did well. That's very helpful to put off the pressure. It's positive that we have kept a clean sheet for a third consecutive time. The fact that we don't concede many goals allows us to get the results." (MV)

Maxime LESTIENNE

"We have done what we had to do"

Maxime Lestienne didn't play his best game for The Blues, but had an important share in this victory with a goal and an assist. "We have done what we had to do. During the first half hour Lokeren were definitely better. Harbaoui is a very strong forward and the wing forwards De Pauw and Remacle created a lot of danger. Luckily for us they failed to score the opening goal and afterwards we have finished them with our efficiency in front of the target. After the break we were very organized and didn't give away a single goalscoring opportunity."
For Lestienne it's a big difference with Preud'homme as head coach instead of Garrido. "I have more responsibilities now and I have to support the defence more, but that's the choise of the coach. If that's what helps the team then I'm more than happy to do my share of the defensive work." (MDK)

Tom DE SUTTER

"The understanding with Lestienne is excellent"

At the stroke of half-time Tom De Sutter doubled the lead after a fine assist by Maxime Lestienne. "Scoring against Lokeren goes quite well and obviously it pleases me to score again. We were outnumbered at that moment, with just Lestienne and me against four defenders, so then it's important to make the right movement at exactly the right time. The understanding between Maxime and me was excellent. The first twenty minutes we were poor, but afterwards we were getting better with a couple of chances. In the second half Lokeren were pushing hard to score that tying goal, but we could hold them off quite easily. Winning 0-3 at Lokeren is a very good result, because they are a very solid team. Today we were very efficient. It was not a walk in the park today to bag the three points but the result is what it is. Being in third position now is a bonus, but we still have to improve week after week." (MDK)

Eidur GUDJOHNSEN

"I had to work hard on midfield"

Eidur Gudjohnsen finished his first starting position under Michel Preud'homme's command with a clear victory. "I'm especially pleased with the victory today. This was my first time in the starting eleven since Preud'homme is the head coach and I'm happy with that. I'm just one of the players in the squad but I always give everything when I play. Today that worked out well and we bagged three important points. I was one of the three midfielders, rather than a second forward behind De Sutter. We knew beforehand that there would be moments in the game where Lokeren would dominate us and that everyone should do their defensive job. At times it was hard work in midfield. But I'm definitely pleased with my share in the build-up and in ball possession. Lokeren away is always a difficult game. Lokeren had a lot of small chances in the first twenty minutes, but if you can get past that moment unharmed there is always more space afterwards. We have performed fairly well, eventhough the last pass could still be better. But in the end we are extremely pleased with this 0-3 victory and with our performance tonight." (MDK)

Michel PREUD’HOMME

"We were efficient today"

Michel Preud'homme was happy to see his team celebrate a fairly easy win at Daknam. But the head coach was still not entirely happy. "I'm not happy at all with our start of the game. There was too much space for Lokeren on our left-hand side and thus Laurens De Bock faced two Lokeren players at too many occassions. We know Lokeren's right-back Galitsios likes to attack, but we gave him too much time and space in that first half-hour. Furthermore, we fell back on our old habits: playing the ball in the feet and not creating enough depth in our play. After thirty minutes we started playing better football with more depth. During the second half we controled the game and stayed well organized. I'm happy with this victory, but I do realize that we still have to work hard. Today we were efficient. Earlier we lacked this kind of efficiency, but today we can't complain about that."
The coach reacted shortly on Eidur Gudjohnsen's situation at Club Brugge: "Not one single player is happy to be on the bench, but he has always continued to work hard since my arrival. Because of his professional attitude and some circumstances (Vazquez was ill the day before, nvdr) he was given the nod today." (SF)
