Mats Rits: “We never gave up”

Ten minutes before the end Mats Rits should have scored, but Didillon kept out the midfielder's close-range effort. In the last minute he succeeded nonetheless. He headed home on a great forward pass by Okereke.

“We won deservedly today. We started the game lively and got the early goal. Unfortunately we gave it away with a mistake, but that's something that can always happen. It gave Genk more confidence and they started to get better. In the first half both teams were equal to one another, in the second half we had the better chances. We struck the post twice and I had a big chance. Luckily we can go home with the three points. Looking at the points we won in the previous games, I think we can be happy. Today we conceded an unlucky game, but we never gave up. This is a well-deserved win."

Due to Ruud Vormer's injury, Rits has a more offensive rol in midfield. "It doens't really matter to me. It's a bit different, I make more forward runs. But I don't really care too much if I play as a six or an eight."

Mats Rits scored the winner for the second time in two weeks. "Obviously I'm very pleased with that. These are three big points for us. We kept going until the last whistle and this is the reward. Siebe Schrijvers came on at half-time and immediately left a mark. He fired it against the post and my shot was kept out, sometimes it's all about the details. Next week it can be someone else who bags it late, so we just have to keep going every single game." (VM)
