Philippe Clement: “The only team with real chances”

A fiesty Antwerp seemed to give Club a run for its money, but Hans Vanaken's late goal made sure the points went to Philippe Clement's troops.

“Obviously I'm thrilled with the three points, and with the way we played at certain moments in the game. Antwerp may very well the toughest team to beat in a good way. They are very physical, with lots of duelling, and they reall adapt to the way you play. To boot, they have a lot of physical and footballing skills. Nevertheless, I'm really happy with how my team applied pressure, and kept trying to play football and find space. It helped us to a well-deserved win, as we were the only team with real chances. In the first half, we had a fine chance through Dennis, but unfortunately he didn't manage to score. Give Mbokani a chance like that, and it's always in. In the second half, we had fine chances through Krmenčík, Vormer and Sobol, so it's fair to say we deserved this victory.”

Newest signing Michael Krmenčík was given the nod at half time, and made a fine impression. “Having already been booked, I knew Dennis would be the target of Antwerp to lure him into a second booking. Furthermore, we need to be more efficient and dangerous inside the box. Which is why I brought on Krmenčík straight away. At training, he had already shown some things that can help the team, such as keeping the ball up front, and weighing on a defense. It's the type of player we didn't have in our selection. He also has the speed to creep behind a defense, it's an interesting profile. We have been looking for it for a long time, but we're happy we finally got hold of him.” (SF)
