Philippe Clement: “Cup Final is a tremendous experience for the fans”

A thriller at Zulte Waregem ended in a Cup Final spot for Club. Philippe Clement has every reason to be proud of his team.

“A true Cup game, with two teams going for the win, with a ‘No sweat, no glory’ mentality on both sides. Both Zulte Waregem and Club Brugge pulled out all the stops, with all the energy they have. The game went from side to side, with chances on both sides, and both teams could have won it today. Claiming that Club wasn't in fine form is paying too little respect to Zulte Waregem's efforts. They were outstanding, and really gave us a hard time. We made some defensive errors in the first half; we're not prone to doing so usually. But that's also because of the hosts' strikers' efforts. The second half saw a better Club. Today's game once again showed Zulte Waregem has a team with a great coach, with lots of quality in the selection. If they can continue like this in the coming weeks, the other teams will have to be above par to keep them out of Play-Off 1.”

As always, Club's T1 remained level-headed amongst euphoria and Cup Final bliss. “The Final's still a long way. We now first need to focus on the league and Europe. But we can already look forward to that Final tonight. It's a tremendous experience for the fans. And we hope to be on the winning side again that day.” (SF)
