Philippe Clement: “Extra pawn in Charles”

Two games, two draws: after the 1-1 Cup draw at home vs Zulte Waregem, Club couldn't find a way to get past KV Kortrijk. A 0-2 lead didn't suffice for Club to take home the three points.

“We took a flying start to the game, with lots of dominance, and adjusting well to local circumstances, such as a spall and bad pitch. We took the lead, and then there's this situation that always should have been a red. I'm not one to say things that like that easily, and I suppose the ref was not at the best spot to judge it, but I can't understand why VAR did not intervene. A fine combination later we were 0-2 in front, but Kortrijk scored after a fine break, where we took the wrong decision in stepping out. I warned my players about KVK's enthusiasm, but still they scored just after the break. We kept pushing, but it was too much of a pingpoing game. The bad condition of the pitch didn't allow for fine football, but was ideal for battling it out physically.”

Blauw-Zwart missed out on two points, but Club's T1 wouldn't hear of much drama. “I can live with this point. Particularly as the circumstances weren't really working to our advantage, and there was also that red card. I can live with the mentality of our group; they kept going for it. To boot, in Charles De Ketelaere we have another one capable of starting a game. A big thumbs up for how he played his game.” (SF)
