Post-match reactions after Club Brugge - Racing Genk

After the home game against Racing Genk, we gathered post-match reactions from Carlos Bacca, Carl Hoefkens, Ryan Donk, Vadis Odjidja, coach Juan Carlos Garrido and sports manager Arnar Gretarsson.

Carlos BACCA

"I feel great here"

Carlos Bacca decided the game with his 25th goal of the season and thus ended a great season with a goal. "I had a couple of objectives before the start this game: become top scorer and win the award for best player of the season. Too bad the most important objective - win the championship - we could not achieve. But I am quite happy with my season overal. Become top scorer is every forward's dream and me winning the award for best player of the season is a wonderful reward."
The Blues have to settle for the 3rd place and can't enter the Champions League, but that's no issue for the Colombian forward. "This team has made my dream come through to play in Europe and therefore Club will always be a special team for me. Furthermore I am very happy to be here. I feel great. But we will see what will happen in the following weeks. If there is an interesting offer, I will concider it, but there is no pressure to leave this team whatsoever." (SF)

Carl HOEFKENS

"I have had a great time here"

Carl Hoefkens played his last game for Club Brugge. The defender was honoured after the game after four seasons playing for Club Brugge. "Saying goodbye to the fans was very emotional. I already felt the special vibe that was going through the stadium during the game. I have had a great time here and I can't say anything bad about this great club. It's just too bad I couldn't win a price during my time at Club Brugge. I really believed this season would be ours. My starting position wasn't a nice gesture of the coach. The coach wanted to win no mather what and this was the team he believed that could take the job on. You have to earn a starting position every day of the week and I am happy that I was in the coach' eleven. I know I can still play good games. I have played good games against the league leaders and today against the cup winners. I wanted to salute the home fans today with a good game and a victory. It's a shame Club Brugge have to enter the Europa League instead of the Champions League. I still hope for the best for Club Brugge.
From Monday onwards I will sit around the table with other potential teams. I didn't want to focus on that during the final games of Play-Off 1. I really want to pick out a team that equals my ambition and gets the results I want to get. I think I can still play for another three years, but if I wake up one morning and I don't feel good about myself then I will end my football carreer immediately. I see my future more as a center defender than a right full-back. I won't get tempted by a big wad of oil dollars or sign for a team on the other side of the world." (KN)

Ryan DONK

"Mixed feelings"

The season has ended. Club finished third and is condemned to the preliminaries of the Europa League. Time for Ryan Donk to share his thoughts on this season. "Today we have done what we needed to do and we could only hope Anderlecht would win his game against Zulte Waregem. Unfortunately that game ended on a draw so we have to settle for the Europa League. I have mixed feelings now we end the season. On the one hand, we were not consistant enough in the regular league and dropped too many points. We started Play-Off 1 in fifth place and had set our goal to grab a European ticket. We have obtained that ticket, but if you are still in the race for the championship two games before the end than you are dissapointed. We have gathered the most points in Play-Off 1 so we have to be dissapointed that we failed to finish top-2. Next season we will have a new chance to do so. Will I still be in that team? I will go on vacation for a week and think over this turbulent season and decide what I'll do with a clear mind. I keep my options, but I definitely want to stress that I am very comfortable at Club and I don't feel the need to leave." (MV)

Vadis ODJIDJA

"I wanted to play this season"

Vadis Odjidja returned from his injury quicker than expected and came on ten minutes before the end. The midfielder thus played a few minutes of this season. "I am happy that I could come on. I really wanted to play a couple of minutes on this last fixture. A quick recovery from my injury allowed me to be on the pitch again today. I'm happy with my substitution and the three points today. We could only win our game and hope for the best at Anderlecht. Then it's too bad the game ended on a draw and we don't enter the Champions League. We have dropped too many points this season, other wise we would have been in control to get that second lace. But we have done everything we could to finish in the top. We have played a number of good games during Play-Off 1 after a season with many ups and downs, so we still end the season on a positive note. Anderlecht deserved to win the championship as they had gathered a lot of points in the regular league. But in Play-Off 1 they only reached their normal level in the last three games. Now we have to focus on the Europa League. I hope we can get some good results and survice the group stage." (KN)

Juan Carlos GARRIDO

"Carl deserved this send-off"

Juan Carlos Garrido finished his season with a narrow victory over Racing Genk. "It was important to bag the three points today and possibly finish second, but unfortunately that didn't happen. I am extremely pleased for Carl Hoefkens. He is a great lad and a superb football player who has meant a lot for this club. He really deserved a nice send-off. It has been an emotional day for him."
The Spaniard looked back on this season. "I arrived in November, Club Brugge were eight in the league. Now we finish third, so I think we can be pleased about that. On the other hand I am not happy as we finish this season empty-handed, with no silver ware to put in the trophy cabinet. We have done quite well in the Play-Off's, but still not good enough to finish second. Starting tomorrow we will focus on next season and make progression again. There are still some things that can be done better and together with the management and the rest of the staff we will do everything we can to prepare a team that is ready for the championship." (SF)

Arnar GRETARSSON

"Good foundation for the future"

"Obviously we are a bit disappointed that we can't finish second today, but we have done what we had to do: take the three points and end the season with a victory. The disappointment was bigger on Thursday as we have never been given a fair chance against Zulte. A red card and an unjustified spot kick after ten minutes killed the game before it had even started. But we must accept the facts and congratulate Anderlecht for winning the title. I even congratulate Zulte Waregem for an amazing season." The Icelander is already looking forward to next season. "I am happy with the way the players have played during these Play-Off's. You musn't forget that we have gathered the most points. This is a good foundation for the future. We will try to convince our key players to stay and add a couple of quality players to the team. The team is more important than the individual player because I only want to have happy players who are willing to give everything 7/7. I want winnrs, I want players who have character, I want players who are willing to give 100 percent for their team. Players who help the oher when he drops the ball. But I also want the players to be real assets to the them on the ball. A good combination of all those things is important. That's what I also team when I watch a team like Barcelona. Our baseline is "No Sweat, No Glory" and we should keep that in mind when we sign a new player. I am pleased Garrido thinks the same about these things. We are on the right track, our ambition is to do even better now and to prepare a team that can keep up with our ambitions." (MV)
