Tom HØGLI

“This club will make it to the top shortly”

Havign played his last game in Club jersey, Tom Høgli now sets sail for FC Copenhagen, Denmark. "I'm happy with today's performance, it's a solid ending to the season. Club came very close to winning it all; but I'm fully convinced that they will grab that title soon, definitely. Such a great club, such great atmosphere, a fabulous coach. But, you know, this is football, and also life: there's a time of coming and a time of going. On Friday, I'll be meeting my international colleagues again; we'll be entertaining France in Paris, and then Russia at home. Two difficult games. After that, we have a couple of weeks rest, only to start at my new club on 20 June. What I will remember the most about this Club is the great players that play here, the fans in the stands, the ambiance here. The people you meet at the streets show respect. To me, that's a fantastic memory." (KN)

Nikola STORM

“Cursed that my effort didn't go in”

Coming in for Sobota in the second half, Nikola Storm had a great run and also saw his efforts rewarded with an assist, and almost a goal. "I cursed a bit when that ball didn't go in. It would have been great, coming on and scoring. At training, we work great together, and I was happy to be able to tee up Castillo. It's a pity the title was out of our hands. We came close, but in the final games we gave it away. But winning the Cup and the title with the U21s make up for that. This was a great season for me. It was my goal to get some playing minutes, and in the end I was brought in in three games."
Club's young talent made a mark. "The coach told me to just enjoy the game and do my thing. I put high standards on myself, and try to come in as eager as possible. I have the qualities to make an action, and I try to show them.. But there are still some things I need to work on, such as defending, and keeping a good overview in attack. I do my best at training, and I hope to get a chance in a game. Today I offered an assist, but maybe next season I can score the odd goal." (KN)

Timmy SIMONS

“Third place comes as a disappointment“

The fat lady has sung: Club ends in third place in the Jupiler Pro League. Not entirely what Timmy Simons had planned for. "I admit that third place comes as a disappointment. We started the season with the title as our main goal, and that didn't pan out, so it hurts. We were still in pole-position one week ago, but after last Thursday's defeat at Genk, it was over and out. Still, you hope to get second place, but we depended on Standard for that. We also wanted to send our fans off with a good game, and thank them for the unquestioned support in the past months and years", Club's skipper kicked off. “Right now, we need to focus on next season, and on how we can improve. What we can do? I don't think it takes all that much, we just have to wait and see who stays and who leaves. Having to play preliminaries in Europe at the end of July shouldn't come as a disadvantage. I like it when things are moving, and as I still have one year in my contract, I'll gladly take part in it. You're not freed of me just yet.” (MV)

Mathew RYAN

“And now for the WC“

With the award of Best Goalie of the League under his arm, Mathew Ryan addressed the press after the ZulteWaregem game. “I have mixed feelings today. On the one hand sad, because we didn't make it to the title, and only ended up in third place. On the other hand, we were able to play some good football today, and bade farewell to our fans in style. I'm also ‘fairly pleased’ with my season here. We started with high expectations, but in the end we narrowly missed out. We have quite a young team, and went through an evolution this season. But maybe we need a bit more self-criticism, in the hopes of becoming better and stronger”, Ryan said. The young goaiie is eagerly awaiting the WC in Brazil. “That will be an awesome experience for a young player like me; I can get so much experience there. Despite the heavey competition, I hope I can make it to the Starting XI. In such a big group, with Spain, Chile and Holland, we start as the underdogs, and we'll see where we strand. I don't know whether Australia has grown stronger since four years ago. Too much has changed. But I have so much respect for my predecessors who represented our country brilliantly. It's an honour to be walking in their footsteps.” (MV)

Michel PREUD’HOMME

“I'll be working hard for these fans”

Michel Preud’homme agreed with Francky Dury, who claimed that Club and Zulte Waregem played the typical end-of-season game. “In the beginning, pace was low, but there are three reasons for that: the disappointment and doubts after Thursday's defeat, the hot weather, and the opponent. This will always be a difficult team to fight, even when they are tired, so we had to be wary of getting trapped. Things went better for us in the second half. We developed a higher pace, got more chances, and could have scored more. We did what we had to do. But this cannot make up for the title we missed. We will now be leaving on vacation, not in the best of moods, but with a good feeling. Club came very close. In the end, four teams were in the running, but unfortunately it didn't come our way in the end. I'm convinced that if we hadn't missed out on Vadis and Vazquez, that we would have made it. My second conclusion is that several youngsters are holding out their hand to the first team. Nikola Storm showed his skills today, but also Dierckx and Coopman are almost there. Finally, I also want to thank the fans. I see that they are connaisseurs, and they they live closely with their team. They also see that this team and this club is growing. For these fans, I will keep working hard.”
Club's coach also gave his views on what's in store for next season. "The facts are these: two players have been promised that they can leave the club for a certain amount. But we now have to wait and see whether we can actually get that amount. We also have to wait and see what happens with the players who will be at the World Cup. We need to be ready in case something happens there. In all of these files, we have the key, and we also possess some youngsters who can take up the gauntlet. We'll have to be attentive, and will try to improve our team. Whether I will leave for a good offer? Everybody knows I only leave when my work is done. And it's not done just yet here, so I will be here next season.” (SF)
