Reactions after Genk - Club Brugge

After the 4-1 defeat against Racing Genk we had a talk with Laurens De Bock, Vadis Odjidja, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Carl Hoefkens, Ryan Donk and coach Juan Carlos Garrido.

Laurens DE BOCK

"Red card was the tipping point"

After ten minutes in the second half, Club had to continue with ten without Laurens De Bock. The defender was sent off with a straight red card after a professional foul on De Ceulaer outside the penalty box. "The red card was the tipping point in the game, because I had the feeling that we were growing in the game. I didn't have the intention to foul him, but De Ceulaer was clever enough."
De Bock played a role with the first goal as well. "My tackle was pretty good and it was just unlucky that the ball ended there. For now it's not going the way we had hoped for. We still need to find each other better on the pitch. We still need to work hard so we have a good place in Play-Off 1. We just need a little bit more time." (MDK)

Vadis ODJIDJA

"Genk was organized brilliantly"

Just like last week against AA Gent, Vadis Odjidja had to play on the right-hand side. "I do what the coach asks me to do. If he thinks I should play there, then I ply there. It's not my best position, as I lose quite a bit of my advantages if I play against the line, but I do the best I can. We have always been fighting hard this game. We tried to play like we alsways do, but Genk was organized brilliantly. We had a bit more chances in the second half, but Genk was very efficient. At 2-1 we had a chance to equalize, but it was Genk that scored the goals." (MDK)

Eidur GUDJOHNSEN

"We need to believe in ourselves"

Eidur Gudjohnsen came on after an hour for Victor Vazquez. "It's not up to me whether I play every week, it's all about the team. Everyone who plays tries to do his utter best, but today it wasn't enough to claim the victory. Just like last week we weren't at our best. We still have to find one another more easily. We can only work hard on training. We still have a couple of games left to gather more points. We are going to give everything so we are a good side in Play-Off 1." (MDK)

Carl HOEFKENS

"We have tried everything"

Carl Hoefkens suffered a light groin injury and was replaced by Jesper Jørgensen. "I didn't want to take any risk to make the injury even worse. It was time for a substitution. How big is the disappointment? It's not the first time we play a game like this in Genk. It has happend before with Koster as a coach. There are a few circumstances that were in our disadvanages, but the most important is that we have tried everything to bag the three points today. You know that Genk is a quality team and it hasn't been easy in these difficult times. We train hard and we do our best to become a team as soon as possible. From now on we focus on the next game." (MDK)

Ryan DONK

"Two points out of three games is not enough"

Ryan Donk was handed a starting spot after his suspension. The Dutchman started in midfield and played a solid game. "Two points out of three games is not enough, eventhough it's always possible to lose away against Genk. We didn't create enough chances. We have again new players in the team and it always needs time to adjust to each other. Whether we should just focus on the Play-Off's now? I don't want to answer that. We need to take one game at a time now." (SF)

Juan Carlos GARRIDO

"The scoreline was excessive"

Club suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat away against Genk. The first defeat for Club Brugge since Garrido replaced Leekens as coach. "Genk definitely deserved to win today, but the scoreline was excessive to me. In the first half we played quite well. We started off as the better side and should have scored through Lestienne, but it was Genk that opened the score with a luckygoal. The second half was only ten minutes under way when we knew we would have a rough time coming, when De Bock was sent off and Genk was awarded a penalty. That was definitely the tipping point of the game. The sending off was correct, but it was never a penalty. Even after coneding the second goal, we didn't give up. After having scored the tying goal through Bacca, we nearly scored the equalizer through Gudjohnsen, but when Genk have scored the third of the afternoon, the game was over. Defensively we played a rather good game, but we didn't create enough chances. For some of our offensive players I am still looking to use them on their position, but I need some more time for that. We have only one option: keep working hard."
The Spaniard was quite aloof about his future at Club Brugge: "It's nor the time, nor the place to answer questions like that. I am happy at Brugge and I seek stability. The future will tell whether I am still coach at Club next season." (MV/SF)
