Waldemar SOBOTA

“Starting XI thanks to hard work at training”

It had been a while, but Waldemar Sobota started from kick-off at Lokeren and he pulled off a great performance. More in particular in the second half, claiming a major share in Club's win with two assists and a goal. “I haven't played all that much in the past few weeks so it felt great to start again. In the first half, it was not an easy game, but after the break we found our way into the game. In December, I had a great spell against Charleroi and Gent, but I was forced to watch the games from the bench afterwards. But it's the coach who decides obviously. Only by continuing to work hard at training I managed to reclaim my starting place. This was a crucial win, but another vital game awaits us next Sunday.” (SF)

Eidur GUDJOHNSEN

“My goal came with perfect timing”

Coming in for the slightly injured Vadis Odjidja just after the break, Eidur Gudjohnsen showcased his pure class tucking in the equaliser. “In the first half, our pace wasn't high enough; we maintained our organisation, however, even though Lokeren have a very fine side. My goal came with perfect timing for us. Things had slowed down a bit in the second half, so that goal caused the turnaround as we really started believing in a victory again. Seeing Tom score was a bit the same as when I came on. That was something to hold on to. This is an extra boost of energy to the team. I was decisive today, next week it might be someone else. When you want to achieve something, you will notice that every single player is of value. That is why we need our entire selection. It could be like this until the last game of the season."
"It's a pity we weren't all that efficient, as we had the chances to add a few more. We could have been sure of the three points earlier in the game and relieve the pressure a bit. All games are vital as of now, you just cannot afford to drop any points. This win, however, is a blessing, as it boosts our confidence so much. Things are looking good right now and with this win, we manage to put a bit of pressure on our competitors. These are three golden points.” (MDK)

Timmy SIMONS

“This could well be a key moment”

Having just bagged the three points at Lokeren, Timmy Simons was all smiles as he highlights the great atmosphere currently at Club. “This was a very important victory. We showed we are resilient, trailing at half time. That made it hard on us, but we pulled it off. One week it will work out fine, and the other week it won't. That's just football. We took a good step as to the continuation of these play-offs.”
In the 1-0, the skipper had a slight touch to the ball, cancelling Harbaoui's offside position, and he was honest in his analysis. “I brushed that ball because I thought that my man started from offside. The ref had his idea on it; one game it's in our favour, the other it won't. But those are details, the most important is that we are well placed as a team and that we complete each other just fine. When one of us is out, he has a great back-up. The substitutions of Eidur and Tom are shining examples. If we can keep up this spirit, something beautiful might be in store for us. The atmosphere is top notch, in all aspects: players, fans and technical staff. Time is ticking, and it's money time, we can't afford any mistakes. This win could well be a key moment, but things can be completely different next week too.” (MDK)

Björn ENGELS

“Great comeback by the entire team”

Björn Engels kept top scorer Harbaoui at bay, but couldn't keep the Tunisian striker from scoring after an unfortunate deviation by captain Timmy Simons. “We deserved this win. It's a pity Timmy had a brief touch to that ball in the 1-0 denying me the opportunity to react. This was a great comeback by the entire team, and we need to try to hold on to this form. We now need to put full focus on the RSC Anderlecht game.”
By the end of the game, the defender was forced to be taken off, but Björn is positive as it came to his slight injury. “With the all-deciding games in these play-offs ahead, I wanted to limit any risks and be extra careful. I hope it's not too serious. I tried to complete the game with character. To me personally, it takes some getting used to the quick follow-up of all the games in the play-offs.” (MDK)

Mathew RYAN

“My save restored confidence in the team”

In minute 60, Mathew Ryan produced a crucial save upon Hamdi Harbaoui's effort, only to see his teammate Tom De Sutter score the 1-2 minutes after. “In the first half, Lokeren scored from one of the few chances they had, sending us to the dressing rooms with a bad feeling. Even if we were in full control of the game. But that can happen in football. In the second half, we showcased a lot of character and willingness to fight as a team. At 1-1, I produced a crucial save, a great moment to me personally. I am happy I did my share fo the hard work. It goes to show that every position in our team is very important. I'm there for the team when called upon and I keep confidence alive. That save gave the entire team a boost, and we were confident enough to make it 1-2 soon after.. This was a crucial win, as it allowed us to put more pressure on our competitors. But in all honesty, we are focused on our own games and take it one match at a time.” (MDK)

Michel PREUD’HOMME

“Showed a lot of character”

It was with pride that Michel Preud’homme analysed today's game. “I reckon we took on the game in fine spirits, producing a lot of danger before they scored. Unfortunately we weren't sharp enough. That goal dampened our spirits somewhat. Trailing at Lokeren, you just konw it's going to be hard. After that, we kept playing our own game, regardless of whether that would lead to the 1-1 or to the 2-0. In any case, we showed a lot of character, which wasn't all that evident after the 1-0. It's a nice win, but you don't win prizes with that. The table is only complete when all games are played, which is not the case just yet. Golden substitutions? Those who come in, can bring that little extra, and they have. But this is a win for the entire team. Also of Mathew Ryan, for instance, who has a major share in this win by producing two excellent saves.”
Club's coach also indicated just why he let De Sutter and Refaelov start from the bench. “They weren't fresh enough to start. This is not a rotation system. I just try to see who's fresh and who's not. Unfortunately for us, Odjidja is out again. He felt pain in the same region as before. We hope he stopped in good time. He has a problem in the knee and ankle region, and makes up for that in other parts of his body. Fortunately, there was also the return of Mechele.” (SF)
