Rits scores late winner at Genk

Another three points on the road. Club Brugge celebrated a well-deserved 1-2 victory against KRC Genk. Inside the first ten minutes Charles De Ketelaere opened the scoring, but Ito equalised for the home side. Club struck the post twice in the second half before Mats Rits handed Club the three points with a header just before stoppage time.

Philippe Clement made four changes in his line-up for the top game against KRC Genk compared to Thursday's defeat at Old Traford. Krépin Diatta and Eduard Sobol came on for Kossounou and De Cuyper on the wing, while in midfield Balanta replaced Ricca. Up front Charles De Ketelaere forced David Okereke on the bench again and teamed up with Percy Tau.

It was a dream start for the blue and black when Charles De Ketelaere poked home Mata's cross past Didillon after three minutes to score his first league goal for Club. A minutes later Didillon palmed away Rits' effort from closeby.

Club were in total control, but ten minutes into the game Sobol unfortunately played the ball into the feet of Ito who eagerly unwrapped that present by firing it into the bottom far corner: 1-1.

That equaliser was a moral boost for the home side who upped the pressure on Club. The increased pressure didn't result in dangerous situations however. Mignolet wasn't troubled with a tame shot by Bongonda and Mata cleared two crosses.

Club didn't create too much either, apart from a header by Rits. Genk had the best chance on the stroke of half-time, when Mignolet needed a great save to keep out Ito's free-kick.

During half-time Siebe Schrijvers came on for Percy Tau and he immediately showed himself against his former team, but he drilled his long-range drive against the post. Genk responded with a dangerous-looking header by Thorstvedt, but it was De Ketelaere who almost bagged his second after a great counter-attacking move by Schrijvers, but he hit the inside of the post.

A few minutes later Diatta was through on goal, but the Senegalese lost his composure and couldn't get a shot at goal. Bongonda tried to get the hosts in front with a free-kick, but Mignolet was equal to it. A few minutes later the glovesman was forced into making another save - this time by Thorstvedt.

The blue and black didn't get in too much trouble, eventhough Mata and Balanta might have been close to a second yellow card.

Club wanted the three points and almost had it ten minutes before the end when Sobol picked out Rits in front of goal, but Didillon kept it out brilliantly. A few minutes later substitute Krmenčík aimed too high.

In the last minute of regular time Okerke found Mats Rits with an absolute terrific forward pass and the midfielder headed in over Didillon to give Club the hard-fought but well-deserved 1-2.
