Simon Mignolet: “Dost provides something extra"

Club won the difficult away game against Beerschot 0-3, but it could have been different if goalkeeper Mignolet hadn't shown his class with a couple of great saves.

“It's my job to keep out the goals", Mignolet says. "We knew that our closest competitors had dropped points again, so this was a great chance to widen the gap. We know that Beerschot is a great team and has done brilliantly in their first season back in the top flight. They score easily, so we were warned not to let them get into the game too much. Luckily our defence was solid again, which makes my job a lot easier. True, Beerschot had a few chances, but they didn't score which makes me very happy."

For different periods of the game you could see the fluent, attacking football of Club Brugge again with again a Bas Dost goal. "It's clear that Bas is an asset. He's someone who easily scores a goal, but also creates space for the players around him. A player like him really adds something to the team. We have a few busy weeks ahead of us, which means our coach will want to use a lot of different players. For now almost everyone is fit, which makes it harder for the coach to make his selection. But it can turn around quickly. With this 0-3 win in the bag, it will be a fun trip back home."

The goalkeeper's been a subject of transfer rumours, but his answer was clear: "My family and I are very happy here. I have a contract at Jan Breydel until 2025 and I might even stick around longer. That's all I have to say about that." (FDC)
