Simon Mignolet: “Nervous for the entire 90 minutes”

Out diagnosed with COVID-19, Simon Mignolet was forced to watch Club's Champions League opener on the couch. Club's goalie saw Club put in a fantastic performance, beating the Russian Champions.

“It has been some time since I last witnessed a game of my team in front of my tv. I think it must have been when my son Lex was born, and I saw the Red Devils game in the hospital. That wasn't easy. The first and maybe the only symptom I encountered in this COVID-19 scare was the ninety minutes of stress I perceived. It's not my thing.”

“I had a good feeling before the game, and I felt the three points could well be ours. But during the game, the nerves really took over. Even if the team was in full control and we were holding the reigns of the game. Heading to the dressing rooms with a 0-0 was a fine result. When we took the lead, I hoped the guys would be able to hold on to that lead, but an unfortunate equaliser decided differently. What followed was a nailbiting 20 minutes, but the team held on. Some fine keeping by Ethan and a solid organisation helped us in maintaining hope for that deserved point. And when you get to score in injury time through a brilliant attack and take the three points through our man of the match Charles, it's safe to say that our CL opener has been one for the memory books. On to Lazio.”
