Tonight at 20h30: Club Brugge – KV Oostende

Another West Flemish derby awaits for Club. Last weekend, Club neatly beat Cercle, and now KV Oostende pays Jan Breydel a visit. With ten conceded goals in just two games, the Kustboys have taken on this new year in bad form. Meeting with the league leaders will be a boost, however, in their attempt to turn the situation around.

Team news

Club Brugge

* Club Brugge's stats this season are downright impressive. Having beaten Cercle on the weekend, Club is having its second to longest undefeated streak ever, alongside the run it had from 17 October 1993 until 15 May 1994 under Hugo Broos (29 unbeaten games). The record is at 36 games, however, as Georges Leekens' side proved unbeatable from 11 November 1989 until 10 October 1990..

* Still no Matthew Ryan in coach Michel Preud’homme's line-up. The goalie made it to the Finals of the Asian Cup, and will be taking on South Korea tomorrow morning. He is set to return to Belgium somewhere next week.

* Club's coach selected 21 names for tonight's encounter. Marked in bright colours is the name of Victor Vazquez, fully recovered from his knee injury, and ready to join in the flight towards PO1.

* Two Club players are in the danger zone; one more yellow for Thomas Meunier or Felipe Gedoz means they miss out on the trip to KV Kortrijk.

* The selection: Sokratis Dioudis, Vladan Kujovic, Davy De fauw, Oscar Duarte, Thomas Meunier, Stefano Denswil, Laurens De Bock, Brandon Mechele, Boli Bolingoli, Timmy Simons, Francisco Silva, Claudemir, Victor Vazquez, Felipe Gedoz, Ruud Vormer, Sander Coopman, Lior Refaelov, Tom De Sutter, José Izquierdo, Nikola Storm and Obbi Oulare.

* Last season, Club beat KV Oostende 2-0. Halfway through the second half, Tom De Sutter broke the deadlock halfway through the second half, and well into injury time, his second clinched the deal. In the first round, Club drew 2-2 at Oostende, both goals by Björn Engels.

KV Oostende

* Relegation seemed off the table just before the winter break, but two games into 2015, KV Oostende may well have to be wary again. Last week, coach Fred Vanderbiest's outfit suffered a 3-1 defeat at AA Gent, while one week earlier, KVO was witness to a KV Kortrijk demonstration: 1-7.

* 23 Match Days played, the team counts 28 points, holding 10th place. If it avoids relegation, the team will be playing in first division three seasons in a row. KVO was part of first division from 1993 to 1995, but after two later promotions (in 1998 and 2004) the team was sent back to second straight away.

* So far, KVO has earned 10 out of 30away from home. Cercle (0-1), KV Kortrijk (0-2) and Standard (3-5) were all beaten, while KV Mechelen was also kept at bay (0-0).

* Two more signings at KVO: Knowledge Musona (Zimbabwe) signs in from Hoffenheim, while Croatian defender Antonio Mili? joins from Hajduk Split. The only player on the out side is Jonathan Wilmet (Waasland-Beveren).

* Coach Fred Vanderbiest will not be able to call upon Jordan Lukaku tonight. The left back was sent off at AA Gent last week, and is suspended. Schmisser, Luissint, Willems and Hempte are all out, due to injury. Making his come-back after his stay at the Africa Cup is Didier Ovono. Midfielder Andile Jali's South Africa is also out of the Africa Cup, but he hasn't returned to
Oostende just yet.

* The selection: Ovono, Dumesnil, Coussement, De Schutter, Milic, Verbrugge, Hoefkens, Brillant, Siani, Jonckheere, Van Imschoot, Berrier, Canesin, Ruiz, Blazevic, Ruytinx, Coulibaly and Musona.

One to watch

Club Brugge – Victor Vazquez

Michel Preud’homme had some good news in store for Club fans yesterday, announcing the return of Victor Vazquez. The Spaniard twisted his knee in the first leg of the Cofidis Cup Quarter Finals at Mechelen. He was able to take up training again at Club's winter training week in Sotogrande, and has been working hard on his return ever since. Club's gracious midfielder was in absolute tip shape before his injury, resulting in a neat second place in the Golden Boot election. Let's hope he gets in touch with that great form soon again.

KV Oostende – Carl Hoefkens

Not only Luc Devroe and Patrick Orlans have a history at Club Brugge, but also two first team players. Michiel Jonckheere went through the youth ranks at Club, but the most striking name is that of Carl Hoefkens. In 2009, Hoefkens signed at Club, having joined Lommel, Westerlo, Germinal Beerschot, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion in earlier stints. He made it to the Starting XI in no time, and had some fine years at Club Brugge. Since last Summer, Hoefkens is a member of KV Oostende's selection.

The man in black – Mr. Jonathan Lardot

The game between Club Brugge and KV Oostende will be directed by Mr. Jonathan Lardot, in his 6th game featuring Club Brugge. Eearlier this season, he handled the whistle at Mouscron (1-4) and at KV Mechelen in the first leg of the QF's. Mr. Lardot, celebrating his 31st birthday, will be backed by his linesmen Mr. Karel De Rocker and Mr. Laurent Conotte. Mr. Alexandre Boucaut will be fourth official.
