Victor Vazquez is ‘Football Player of the Year’

“A big day for me”

Victor Vazquez succeeds Thorgan Hazard as 'Football Player of the Year'. The Spanish midfielder now gets the recognition he had already deserved. Earlier this season Victory came just a few points short to win the Golden Booth 2014 when mainly sports journalists casted their vote. This time, the other players in the Jupiler Pro League recognized the Catalan as the best player in Belgium.

"It's a big day for Club and for me," Victor Vazquez says. "Michel Preud'homme - Coach of the Year -, Mat Ryan - Goalkeeper of the Year - and I won three of the four prizes. There's hardly a better way to show that our squad was exquisit this year." Lior Refaelov and Neeskens Kebano were respectively second and third in the final result.

"Am I the best player of the Jupiler Pro League? It's hard to say about myself. But if a larger part of the 360 professional football players think I am, then I probably am. I'm very happy about my performance this season. This must have been my best season every. I'm very proud of this titel 'Football Player of the Year'. I think it's the first time a Spaniard receives this highly-rated award in Belgium. My parents, wife, family and friends in Barcelona and Brugge are very happy for me."

"I want to stress that I'm honoured to receive this award with Michel Preud'homme as head coach," Victor adds. "This week he was deservedly voted 'Trainer of the Year'. Our coach is by far the best in Belgium and even in Europe. Every player will run through a wall for him. The honour I receive today, will help me to become even a better player."
