Win for PSG and Man City, RB Leipzig suffers defeat

Not the best of dress rehearsals for RB Leipzig on the eve of the CL thriller scheduled next Wednesday. A 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hoffenheim was all that was in it. Less worries for PSG and Manchester City, who both won their game.

TSG Hoffenheim - RB Leipzig 2-0

An away trip at Hoffenheim was in store for RB Leipzig on Saturday evening, and once again Die Rote Bullen did not bring home the full loot after a chanceless 2-0 defeat. Hoffenheim started out with lots ow power, with the intention to keep Leipzig from getting into its usual rhythm. An early goal followed as Samassekou headed the opener in for Hoffenheim, retaining its high pressure. The visitors had all the trouble in the world finding an answer to Hoffenheim's game, and it was only by the end of the first half that Leipzig fought its way back into the game, but a well-deserved 1-0 remained the scoreline at half-time.

The second half provided a mirror image of the first: Hoffenheim with high pressure and fine positioning, and Leipzig unable to deploy its usual prowesses. Halfway through, the hosts doubled the score, as Munas Dabour made the most of ball loss by Adams. Despite having the better of ball possession, Leipzig hardly created any chances, and had to call upon an in form Gulascsi to prevent the hosts from widening the gap further. On Wednesday, RB Leipzig heads for Club Brugge on Match Day 5 of the Champions League. (KN)

PSG – Nantes 3-1

PSG continues its fine home league run. Despite a red card for Navas, les Parisiens easily beat Nantes at home, with a 3-1, among others courtesy of Lionel Messi's first league goal.

Unlike in other fixtures, Paris Saint-Germain now started out with fervour, resulting in an early opener by Mbappé, deviating Paredes' shot in goal after a mere two minutes of play. The first half brought what many a PSG fan was lusting for: combination play between Messi, Neymar and Mbappé. Visiting goalie Lafont was in fine form, however, keeping the damage limited to a 1-0 at half time.

The second half saw a more pressing Nantes, even more so after Navas was sent off with twenty minutes to go. And with success, Kolo Muani putting Nantes level with fifteen minutes to go. An upset seemed in the making, but that was when Messi decided to have his say too. The Argentinian first wanted to play Mbappé, seeing his cross end up in goal through Appiah, and minutes later the PSG star put the result beyond doubt himself, aiming PSG's third with precision in goal after a fine solo action.
