“We had trouble in possession in the first half, we just weren't cool-headed enough. In the first half, they were the better team. After the break, we were more in the game. After that sending off and that 1-0, you have to keep pushing, but we let a few chances slide. When we didn't get that penalty by the end of the game, we leaned back a bit too much, and Union played an all-or-nothing game. But we managed to stand our ground. It was a glorious evening. I have had some of these as a player, but also as a coach. That interaction with the crowd, that's what it's all about. They really pulled us through many a rough spot. Kudos to the mentality in our group of players too. It has been fantastic ever since I joined back in January. That focus we take to the pitch, is brilliant. When it's not working out just playing nice football, other players rise to the occasion. Mignolet, Vanaken, Balanta, you name it. They were just massive. It's not like it is always the same players starring every week, and that's what makes us a great team. Union has a fantastic outfit, but we haven't conceded any goal in our four encounters. That's something to be said too. I'm so proud of the mentality in our team. We took a great step again today. We need to hold on to this mentality, and we'll be hard to beat. We know need to look at ourselves and make sure we play a good game at Antwerp too.” (SF)
