Bart Verhaeghe: "Successes thanks to collective and structurally sound work"

Following annual tradition, partners and press gathered to toast the new year. Leo Van der Elst polled chairman Bart Verhaeghe for his views on 2018 and his expectations for 2019.

After an extensive audiovisual overview of the year, Leo Van der Elst let chairman Bart Verhaeghe speak about the past calendar year 📅. Verhaeghe: "We again have every reason to be particularly proud of the past year, with the second national title in three years, the Super Cup, and the individual crowns for our coach and players. With Hans Vanaken tomorrow, we could possibly secure a third consecutive Golden Shoe for the first time, that's no longer a coincidence." The chairman also expressed satisfaction with Club's current situation. "In sporting terms, we were never as strong as we are today, with a double in every position. We have become a European sub-topper to be feared, which showed itself in the Champions League and yet also continues to give youth a chance."

Alongside the fine performances in Europe and in the biggest games, there were also some unexpected defeats and a string of injuries. At the winter training camp, it could be seen that they worked hard to get everyone back to top fitness. "There was a lot of sweating in Qatar, the desire for a prize is clearly high. We are also happy that we could see some pawns back on the pitch, but still have a significant sickbay. The return of guys like Mitrovic, Peres, Vlietinck, Danjuma and Vossen will be good for us. With the Play-Offs and the arch-difficult duels against Salzburg, we will all need the best Club in 2019."

Finally, there are also a lot of activities to note off the pitch, headed by the construction of the Belfius Basecamp. "A milestone for Club. Our players will be able to train there in the best conditions. And we also hope to offer that level to our twelfth man as soon as possible. Never in one season have so many people come to watch games as Club Brugge did last season. That's a reward for our sporting performance and brilliant operation, but especially for our fans. They deserve a new stadium more than ever."
