Benfica, next Tuesday's opponent of Club Brugge in the Champions League, managed to beat 11th in the standings, Famalicao, in their own league.
The match was locked for a long time. It took until the 20th minute before the first goal threat could be noted. However, the distance shot whizzed over Benficao goalkeeper Vlachodimos' goal. Around the half-hour mark, Goncalo Ramos managed to open the scoring on an assist from Alex Grimaldo. Just before that, Benfica's first opportunity fell through David Neres.
In the second half, Benfica got off to an immediate flying start. An Alex Grimaldo shot went wide. Moments later it was Joao Mario's turn to connect, but his shot went wide. Goncalo Ramos also tried to outsmart Famalicao's goalkeeper Luiz Junior from distance, but the goalie made a fine save. Only in injury time did the Eagles manage to double the lead thanks to Goncalo Ramos' second goal (EV).
