Blue-Black continues in the cup after a 0-2 win against Patro Eisden!

Blauw-Zwart began their cup adventure in the 1/16th finals visiting Patro Eisden Maasmechelen. In the first half, there was little goal threat to note and consequently we went to rest without goals. The second half brought no goals either, so we got extensions. There, Lang was able to make the difference by shaking the nets in the first and second extension. Club continues in the Croky Cup!

Compared to the game against KAA Gent, some changes were expected in the starting line-up for the cup meeting against Patro Eisden. In defense, Boyata was replaced by Odoi, but especially in attack there were some substitutions. Up front, Nusa, Lang and Larin started and captain Vanaken was benched. For the home team, perhaps the most notable name was along the sidelines, namely former Club goalkeeper Stijn Stijnen.

As expected, Club immediately claimed the ball in the opening phase, but Patro Eisden was initially well organized. Consequently, it was searching for an opening and after just over 10 minutes the first goal threat even came from the home side. A free kick was deflected by Sam, but Mignolet reacted alertly and prevented the opening goal. The visitors responded via a free kick from Nielsen, but he kicked the leather directly across goal instead of dropping the ball into the box. At minute 20, Club's best chance fell: Lang cut the free kick well and Larin could almost deviate into goal. A shot by Buchanan followed immediately after, but his effort was too central.

Club's pace was a bit too slow in the first half, making it difficult to create openings. Around minute 35, Buchanan was able to push through, but his cross just failed to reach Nielsen at the far post. Shortly after, it was opniuew Buchanan who dropped the ball into the sixteen and that's where Nielsen popped up. The ball lingered a bit near the spot, but eventually Larin's attempt was blocked. Finally, Buchanan once again deviated the ball for Larin, but the latter was kept off the ball just in time. Consequently, after a first half without much goal danger, we went to rest with a glasses score....

The second half started with the same 22 tenors and, as in the first half, it was Patro Eisden that provided the first danger. After a quick switch, Bounou played into the run of Ferber, who kicked immediately, but his cracked shot went far wide. Club responded via a stabbing ball from Lang in the sixteen, but Belin anticipated just in time before Larin could become dangerous. Just before the hour, the Canadian striker was able to decide in the direction of goal. Nielsen crossed the ball well and Larin went in one time his chance. Unfortunately, the leather landed wide of goal. Shortly after, Patro Eisden had a quick breakaway. Bounou was able to strike, but Mignolet boxed his attempt well away.

Club continued to monopolize the ball and patiently search for that one opening. The home team crawled more and more into its shell, but also became more bitter. Some Patro Eisden players did not show their best side. Despite the many ball possession for Club, we had to watch out for the fast changeovers by the home team. Bamona was able to push through and get inside. His blast was well parried by an attentive Mignolet. In added time, the Bruges goalie had to distinguish himself again on a close-range effort by Valcke. So we got extensions ...

In the first extension, Blauw-Zwart looked increasingly emphatically for the attack and in the end they were finally rewarded for it. Via a smooth combination through the center, Vanaken found Lang in the sixteen with a crafty ball. The latter reacted faster than Belin and poked the ball into the net. In the second extension, the Dutchman repeated this trick by doubling the score on a quick counterattack. Club continues!
