Brandon Mechele and the Bruges defense held off the Antwerp attacks well. Club was now able to hold its lead though and grabbed a handsome three-pointer in these Champions' Play-Offs.
Brandon Mechele: "It's been a successful afternoon for us"
"This is gratifying," Brandon Mechele said after the game. "Finally the three points and the zero, as a defense that's important too. It's been a successful afternoon for us. We did have a chance to pick up points in previous weeks, but unfortunately it didn't work out and at times we deserved a little more. Today it's extra gratifying then and certainly for the supporters. It was a very important game for them, they were already present when we arrived by bus. That gave a boost and the atmosphere was good. We were pushed forward by the supporters and they stayed behind us."
However, it was a bit of a scramble for Blauw-Zwart at the beginning of the match. "The first half was a bit of a chess game. Some testing what could and couldn't be done. It's important to keep the organization and not run on a razor-sharp counter. We stood well, but the threat from us was not enough. That was better in the second half with two nice goals by Casper Nielsen. Romeo Vermant fell in well and had a fine assist on the second goal. Good that the substitutes are doing their part and especially at the end of the season when everyone is tired. That gives a boost to the team."
Club did now hold on to the lead against Antwerp. "Last week at 0-2 we had everything under control, but they scored at their first chance with some luck. We were able to do better there on the counter-goals. Today we just keep the zero. There are two more games to finish the season nicely. It would be nice to finish those with wins." (KN)
